Driving in snow

Ok judging by the forecast its going to be pretty snowy tomorrow.

Is it a good idea to lower tyre pressures? does that help in any way?

I run mine quite high for better mpg

Increase the pressure. Yor tyres will become like ice skates ad your car will handle like it's on rails.

Increase speed. The faster you drive, the less time you spend in snowy conditions and the faster you get home to where its safe.

Inflate the tyres to the recommended pressure as per the user manual of the car.

If you lower your pressure making the tyre softer it will squash more and close up your tread pattern. You will be wanting as much grip as possible so stick with recommended pressures and just drive nice and smoothly. Slow down using the gears etc helps. Oh and keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front. Adjust it accordingly for the complete numpties who will be tail gating you and do not realise they wont be able to stop as quickly as they usually can.

There is no recommended, there is a min and max, and mine are somewhere in the middle.

I guess it means what your definition of 'high' is. What are they at then?

high gear, low revs, no sudden and/or jerky movements with the wheel or the pedals.

having said that, i recommend going to a bit flat empty space and doing quite the opposite

One thing that always get's me when the snow comes down is 4x4 drivers speeding around, sure you might have more traction to get moving, but all cars have 4 wheel braking.
