If you lower your pressure making the tyre softer it will squash more and close up your tread pattern. You will be wanting as much grip as possible so stick with recommended pressures and just drive nice and smoothly. Slow down using the gears etc helps. Oh and keep plenty of distance between you and the car in front. Adjust it accordingly for the complete numpties who will be tail gating you and do not realise they wont be able to stop as quickly as they usually can.
One thing that always get's me when the snow comes down is 4x4 drivers speeding around, sure you might have more traction to get moving, but all cars have 4 wheel braking.
