James Cameron's 'Avatar' - The next gen of cinema

In that case, I'm not sure what I have the bigger issue with. His opinion on 3D, or his hair style...

Gotta love the Quiff!

Although i think he is 100% right on 3D. Didn't work before, and wont work now. Animated films will continue to have it, but i think eventually it will just fade out again, unless as i said they find away to do 3D without glasses.

I don't have a problem with 3D at all, and quite enjoy it. I would like to see Avatar in 2D though, but suspect that will wait until home release for me :)

I dont have a problem with it either, i did like Avatar in 3D, but i guess we lived without 3D before this sudden boom. Imo the money should be spent in upgrading all the cinemas projectors rather than just a select few screens with 3D projectors, leaving 2D to be just as bad as it was before, well in the cinemas i have been in Belfast, the 2D quality is terrible, whereas 3D was obviously sharper. I just seen Its a Wonderful Life last night in the local independent film theatre in Belfast with its recently upgraded projectors+screens and the quality was unbelievable. Money better spent rather than just putting in 3D projectors.

If Avatar had a stronger script it could have hit the ball out of the park. As it was, it was still good though :)

What's the matter Neil, Cameron's character development wasn't strong enough? It can't be, as you have said in this very thread Cameron creates very solid and deep characters (i.e Rambo, Terminator, etc).

You were claiming that the script would be great, and now what? Oh the same!!!

It doesn't hurt to listen to other opinions from time to time.

*groan*

Look through the thread and read what I said maybe? Rather than making some hokey nonsense up :)

From the start I said I'd wait till I saw it till I made my mind up, and suggested others simply do the same... And feel I'm been more than fair in my opinion pre/post seeing it ;)

That covers a lot of genres and is a long period (The Matrix is nearly in it for example)... For this sort of genre (scifi/fantasy) I'd personally have to say the LOTR films for example are a far more complete/interesting experience.

rolleyes?

LOTR I found to be boring, although admittedly I'm not the biggest fan of the books and didn't make it through them all (helped by the manner in which they were written.) And the Matrix was a good movie definitely, however the sequels weren't, they just tried to go bigger and more extravagant each time that it lost its point and charm.

Obviously there have been good movies in the last decade, but I just haven't enjoyed any of them as much as Avatar. I was even apprehensive about the movie from seeing trailers beforehand, as I dont like CGI in movies at all, however it just had an overall impact on me and I couldn't stop thinking of it for days after I'd seen it, and that is something that doesn't happen to me often.

Beautiful, Amazing , Stunning film. i honestly can't think of enough superlatives.

Also, i have fallen in love with the music score.

wonderful stuff

Can someone tell me an accurate run time of this film start to finish including ads at the beginning? Am I looking at 3 hours? I'm going to see at Imax at 9 0 clock showing but it's gonna be really tight with last train home at midnight. Cheers

Oh and does Imax have an Interval in the middle?

Visually it is a stunning film, but i don't think i've ever seen another that is quite as boring. Literally nothing happens for the first 2 hours, and even afterwards its not that great to make up for it.

Honestly the first time i've felt like walking out of a cinema ...

I'd say 3 hours also. The Imax I saw it at did not have an interval.... didn't know cinemas did intervals any more !!!

Saw the film the other day, you can't argue with the fact that Cameron has created an incredible and believable world. The colours and detail in the wildlife and scenery were stunning.

I quite liked the film also. It's no masterpiece of storytelling, it's nothing new, but it wasn't OTT either. It was a nice balance of action, background story, emotion, the love story wasn't too in your face either.

I'll definitely be buying this on Blu-Ray when it's out. It'll look great! A very solid 9/10 for me.

On the Glasgow IMAX website it's mentioned that the film starts bang on the stated time and it did, right on 9pm. We were all out for around 11:40 (ish).

Your milage may vary but it could be worth checking your IMAX's website or even giving them a quick call?
