5770 vertical lines

oh no now I read this thread :/

Getting a 5770 soon (ordered waiting on delivery) & am on an ASUS board.....hope I get lucky :/

Have you read THIS thread mate ?

The profile tweak and / or card BIOS flash have cured this for a few

GL :)

Yeah, that's the thread I was referring to in the original post, but it is for the 5870. Which is why I originally asked if the updated 5770 bios worked for anyone else. I don't want to be the first to try it as I've never done that kind of thing before and don't know how. And there's no sense in dong so if that fix only works for the 5870.

I've read guys that many have fixed their problems with Asus motherboards by manually setting the PCIE speed in the BIOS to 101mhz. It's worth a try at least, it may well fix most of the problems.

any idea where to find setting the PCIE speed on my BIOS? , i see no option for it. my mobo is using the latest American Megatrends BIOS for it.

looking around the forums is generaly the mid/lower end 5xxx series that are having problems.

Ive mentioned this in another thread as well.

All the dies are the same just flashed differently. A 5770 die is a failed 5870/5850 die.

This is the same with all makers. The failed units on their high end are their mid to low end and with yeilds as bad as they were im not suprised that half the gpus are gubbed altogeather.

So you're saying just rma it, and the next one might be better?

I'm also having problems with vertical line crashing on a Powercolour 5870. I've tried everything including flashing the bios to the latest ATI version dated 2009-11-12, using the profile tweak and disabling the ATI High Definition Audio Device. I've tried all the different driver revisions from 9.10 to 9.12 Hotfix. The crash only happens in graphically demanding 3D games and I only noticed it once I started playing COD MW2 and Arma 2. I usually play Flight Sim games such as FSX, which run for hours no problem. The only way I can get COD MW2 to run more than 5 minutes is to reduce the memory to 900 from default 1200 and the clock to 725 from default 850 whilst increasing the Vcore to 1.175 using MSI Afterburner. I thought it might be a temperature issue so I logged the temperatures using GpuZ and they never go over 70C, even so, the card sometimes crashes well before then. The PSU is a 'be quiet! Dark Power Pro 750W' which successfully powered a 280 GTX without any issues. I rebuilt the PC with a new HD and Win 7 64 install when I bought the 5870 so it has no remnant Nvidia drivers. The rest of the system comprises an i7 965 @ 4Ghz, 6Gb RAM, Asus P6T Delux (latest bios), SB X-fi Win 7 64 in an Antec 1200 case with lots of cooling. I raised a support ticket with AMD but they are very slow, I suppose it's the time of year. I think that some of these cards have not been tested properly and there is a hardware issue rather than a driver issue. I am considering sending the card back after restoring the original Bios however if they run it for a few minutes it will probably be fine and they'll send it back. Also, like many of you here, I use the PC every day and waiting weeks or longer for a replacement is not viable. I've been building my own PC's for years and can remember sending off to the USA for a 3DFX Voodoo when they weren't yet available in the UK, costing £200 plus import duty, to replace my ATI Mach 64! This 5870, although very fast, has caused me more headaches than any other card I have ever owned.

Sorry deano I don't know as I haven't had a megatrends bios for years. Usually it's on the same page in your bios as the cpu overclocking parameters such as FSB/multiplier etc.

i found it eventually, its under AI overclocking in the jumper free config bit, cheers mate.

Ive been onto the asus site and installed the new chipset driver and havent had a crash since *touch wood* (latest BIOS has no effect) ill let you all know if i have a crash :)

I'm glad you've finally managed to sort it all out (hopefully) matey, it can be frustrating as hell to have a nice card that's virtually unusable.

I think my next card will be nvidea.ATI drivers seem to be all over the place lately with their new cards.
