most pirated games 2009

I have not bought a game in the shop for years, I only digital download.

Its faster and I CBA to leave the house :)

Most games like MW2 that are downloaded will be used for LAN

Everyone knew MW2 was going to be the most downloaded game of the year(activision only have themselves to blame), but i cant understand why the likes of prototype is in the top 5.

If people don't agree then fine, but I hate seeing people act like the pope goes to their house for dinner every sunday.

Want me to pass a message on to him? :D

I would also like to add something here... While there is a high number of downloads don't forget a lot of people would have bought a key from one of those key sites that sells keys on the cheap. So while they supply the key they don't supply the software so people are forced to go else where. When my friends wanted to start playing COD we me they were faced with £19.99-£29.99 for a retail copy of MW or they could pay about £10 for a legit CD-Key (well legit as in not a pirated key) and then source the game themselves (IE Torrent download) so although they have downloaded the software they have paid for the game so to speak.

I pirated one of the games on that list, the rest I didn't even want and the one i did pirate wasn't good enough for me to want to spend my money on it. So if people are looking for the reason that PC gaming may or may not be dieing, possible they could look at the fact that the quality of what is being released for PC nowadays is substandard.

+ If a demo of the game I had pirated had been released I would never have needed to pirate it in the first place.

You have to be insane to spend over £30 on something without having tried it first, especially since its non-returnable!

I bet only a fraction of the people who downloaded Sims 3 would have actually bought the game had they not been able to pirate it. Tbh those figures are largely irrelevant to calculating lost sales revenue as they won't factor in
- Duplicate downloads
- People who downloaded the game who purchased it at a later date anyway
- People who would have never purchased the game regardless of downloading it

Without being able to make decent estimations of the above those statistics are meaningless.

I downloaded it, played it a couple of hours and uninstalled. Not a chance in hell i'd have bought if i couldn't have pirated it anyway. Same goes with most games i download as i can't afford them that often, the only ones i'll buy after pirating them to see if i like them are ones that have online components such as L4D2.

Personally i don't give a toss what anyone thinks of my form of piracy, i don't lose the companies any money in the slightest as i wouldn't be buying from them anyway.

this should be in the console section, anyhow s I'm off to buy dirt 2 for the PC , Just found out a mate off mine whom got it for Christmas likes it so.

consoles OMG.

Not surprising really.

One thing I will say though are these numbers cannot be automatically equated to lost sales for the games themselves. How many people pirate to try out a game that they wouldn't have bought anyway? How many people pirate because they actually can't afford the game.

I know with college leaving me with about 50 euro spending money a month after food, rent and buses I've been guilty of the second case once or twice this year. I don't feel bad however as there is no way I could have bought the games so they aren't losing money. Any game I really wanted I just waited for a b'day or christmas and asked parents/gf to get it for me.

What I don't understand is if you can't afford the game, why do you feel entitled to have it anyway? I know piracy technically isn't stealing, but used in the context that it was, if you couldn't afford food at a shop, you wouldn't take it anyway would you?

Prototype is crap how is that in the top 5 PC?
MW2 will have been downloaded by people who don't care for the online, as SP is so so short.

I see there is zero piracy on the ps3 still.

But... it's Bittorrent!

What we need is another chart showing how many of those games people downloaded ending up unraring it and finding out it's Microsoft Office.

We need to know how many people unrared it, installed it, played for 15mins and said 'this is rubbish I am glad I didn't pay for it', uninstall it and delete it.

I wonder how many downloaded games really result in a drop of sales.

I hate thieves, the little ***** gypsys.

I hate even more the people that seriously try and justify to themselves that they are not thieves -- when they clearly are.

Pyroblaze (and other pirates) -- is this simple enough for you -- you're a ***** little thief - it really is as simple as that - ABSOLUTELY 100% NO DIFFERENT from the ****** that steal cartons of cigerettes from the corner shop 'because they're too expensive', then wonder why the shop goes out of business ..

You're destroying what I love -- the PC gaming industry. If I had my way I'd literally put you in prison. Sorry, but next time you're wondering why you never get invited to the cool parties, and don't really have that many friends and g/f's seem mysteriously abscent or a bit 'orrible-- the truth is friend -- it's because everyone hates a theiving ******. And you're one of them! I wouldn't have someone round my house that has no objection to stealing things from people ... think about it .. ironically, would you?

Probably not as many as we're all lead to believe, as Pyroblaze (whilst being a "thieving *****" apparantly) makes a very valid point in that quite a few pirates would have had no intention of buying the game anyway. I guess one could argue that if there was no way to pirate a game then they would be forced to buy it, however if they don't have the money to buy the game in the first place they wouldn't be able too.

If I was never going to buy it, how does it make a difference?

Why does this debate have to turn into a slander match anyway? Get off your high horse. Lets evaluate your life and see what you do that isn't perfect!

Like I said on another forum, unless you're a vegan who cycles to work everyday on a biodegradable bike whilst adopting African war orphans on the way, then you really don't have much place to judge.

If I was never going to buy it, how does it make a difference?

Because you are getting a good that other hard-working people had to pay for.

Is it ok to 'sneak into' a cinema, evading the staff, to see a film that you wouldn't have paid for - because you can and ticket prices are expensive?

Is it OK to hack into US military computers, because you don't intend to sell the secrets you're just doing it for the lol?

Is it OK to publish the numbers of peoples credit cards on t'net for the LOL after all YOU'RE not going to use the numbers for fraudulent purposes - not your problem if someone else does?

Is it OK to secretely film a girl taking a shower? After all she'll never know yea? You can use it yourself and it's a victimless crime yea as you weren't going to ask her out either way so no problem yea?

Is your moral compass shot to peices or what?? You sound kind of sociopathic .. how many more examples do you want of your 'victimless crimes'?

Wow, some extreme examples there with absolutely no relevance.

And like I said, is your life full of selfless acts with no hindrance to other human beings? I think not.
