Corsair H50 Water Cooling Kit

I have the All Black version had no probs at all fitting the h50

Probably. I would put a filter on, but again this would greatly reduce the airflow. I have a fine grill above the fan that should catch a fair bit of dust. Otherwise, will just have to buy an air can to unclog it every now and again. I certainly didn't have a choice though, for overclocking it just wasn't doing the job as an exhaust.
 
Here it is before I switched the radiator to the empty space next to the fan on top and added a push fan also. I then moved the exhaust fan at the top to where the radiator is in the picture. It works well since all heat from the radiator is intercepted by my intake fans on the side panel, bottom and front of the case and is then pushed towards the exhausts.

edit: Also wondering how much stress those pipes can take? Seemed a little bit tougher to move the radiator to the right a little.

Instaled mine today, load temps on my q6600 (3.6 1.3650v) are about 70c for 2 cores and 60c for the other 2, about the same temps as i got with the true.

You will not regret it mate, as these Noctua cooler is very good indeed as I got mine, finally get rid of Corsair H50 after leaked into motherboard. Stay away from H50, not a very safe water cooling due to leak.
 
If i was going to remount this using as5 whats the best method to use for paste? Line acorss the heatspreader then let the twisting of the h50 spread it?

Is there much of an improvement using as5 over the thermal compound already applied to the H50? Anyone tried it?

Edit: Think I am going to try putting the radiator as an exhaust again (back to where it is in the picture above). My highest overclock now doesn't need the extra cooling....at least in theory :). Plus its a snow day, so why not!

As a last ditch attempt before I dumped the H50 I got my lapping kit out.


Compared to other people I just did not get as low temps as other people. In fact mine were scarily high. When running linX my temps reported by real temp and core temp was 90+C sometimes it was really closer to 95-96C which to me is unacceptable.

I don't particularly have a good 920 clocking chip it hits 4ghz and that is about as far as I can take it with my limited knowledge of overclocking the 920's. It needs 1.3v to make sure it stable so it not one of these low voltage 4ghz chips.

When I had it on my 9550 setup it was more or less the same idle temps as my TRUE and about 3 C cooler under load. Which is not a great improvement but one could argue it an improvement none the less.

Switched to the i7 and realised that it can't really cope with the i7 thermal disspation that well once you past sticking in voltages to aim for 4ghz stable. might be fine for good clocking chips but in my case I didn't have that luxury. Mine needs 1.3v min not to mention I need a scarily high qpi/vtt voltage just to get my ram to run at it rated speed otherwise it a no show. So that wouldn't of help the situation either.

Lapping has helped somewhat but there is only so much it can help and nowhere near enough to make me feel at ease.

I was planning to restart my folding@home but there is no way I would feel comfortable leaving it run 24/7 with the temps I get.

I've found that the H50 doesn't cool any better really over my Titan Fenrir which im a bit dissappointed about, was hoping for like an 8-10C drop under load and Overclocked. When you consider this costs like 3 times a much after as a Titan after you've bought another fan for push/pull it just doesn't seem worth it lol

Although it look nicer in my case and was something new to play with lol

With regards to lapping i might try it on my Q9550 see if it helps any, what sandpaper do i need for this? Could i pick it up at say homebase or something?
 
I got mine from places like homebase, B&Q and it was the wet and dry stuff.

I started off from like p600 grit (coarse) and finished on p2000 grit (fine)

I didn;t have any problems cooling my 9550 when the H50 was on it. Load temps were slightly cooler than my True.

But then I did have a push pull config on the H50 and only a single fan on the True which I also lapped before.

I used MX-2 thermal paste on both. Be interesting to see how you get on as for love or money I can't get this H50 to cool satisfactory either at idle let alone when it under load.

To be honest I think it time to give up with this and find an alternative cooler for my i7. When you are getting 95c load temps under Linx and it is winter time and the setup is naked. You know how that going to work out once I put it in a case and summer comes.

Cheers, however i've just found a Lapping Kit off of a well known auction site ;) it has 400, 600, 800, 1200, 1500, 2000, 2500 grit wet and dry for £3.40 sounds good to me :)

As for cooling i'm gonna give it till prob next weekend, gives the AS5 time to cure then i'll OC to 4,05Ghz see what my temps are, my Titan Fenrir hit 69C max on one of the cores. So by next weekend the AS5 will have cured i think then i'll give it a shot see where she is.

Then i think i'll Lap the CPU and slap some more AS5 on or just go for MX-3 as theres no curing time :)

Perhaps you should invest a better WC setup? i7's do generate a lot of heat and i would have thought a single rad would struggle to cope with it anyway
 
I just put my second fan onto my H-50, improved temps a bit, much better overall temps now compared to my NH-U12P, im using both NFP-12 fans still, temps are about 7-8 degrees average lower than the noctua, the only difference is i added a fan onto my sidepanel to make 3 instead of 2, though i think overall a solid product.

So then you will be able to fit your side panel without any issues.

What is it that is stopping you getting the panel on anyway, is it the side fan on the panel?

Been trying to get to the bottom of this one. Last ight I rather impulsively bought an H50 before checking it specifically fit in my case. I have an Antec 900, I can't work out if bobbyboy ever got his case to close? Can anyone else confirm it fits OKin an Antec 900?

lol not too sure about the Pink fan...rather use the black one that came with it. Cooled it down a futher 10deg once fitted... Very good product.

As long as the pump is always running at 12v it can be connected to any header. just disable any voltage control in the bios for the header you use for the pump. I,m sure on your board the Northbridge is a constant 12v and not controlled.. The fan can be used with power managment and set as req,d for temp controll.

Those pink fans are lovely... :eek:
 
I am going to have to refit my H50 tonight as I had to RMA my Gigabyte UD5 motherboard. I have some MX-3 to use in place of the original TIM.

What is the best way to apply it? Is the line across the cores sufficient?

When I installed the H50 the first time I hooked the top bracket in the notches and then screwed it in position so didn't need to do the twist part. This seemed to work quite well.
