Trance is so vastly misunderstood...

While all of these are top artists, I would not consider any of them trance.

But on a similar tip, check out Leftfield, both albums are great post-party. :)

Well above and beyond definitely are. They've got a weekly radio show called Trance around the World :D

Infact if any of you are interested it starts at 7pm and ends 9pm - and you can listen to it - albeit in a not so great quality 96kbps - on di.fm.

Link http://www.di.fm/mp3/trance.pls

I'd be interested to see what you think to the trance on that show SteveO, give it a listen for half an hour or so if you want and don't wanna listen to the whole thing - might be interesting for you to see how the music has evolved today :)

infact the tunes that are playing at the mo are bloody good :)

Nice, I just got into producing it, it's great fun, been 3 months so far but I've finally started working on a tune I'm gonna finish this time, it's hard but rewarding work, a long road ahead but as long as you enjoy it it's great :)

YES! This absolutely riles me, it either gets dubbed as techno or trance when it is anything but so annoying! From a huge dance music fan prospective, it absolutely does my nut and its quite embarrassing! Dam old people and stereotypes.

it annoys me that people only know basshunter for his new stuff, which is just re hashed music about an irc bot and a pc game >.> hehe But yes, its annoying when its labled the same as this awesome music too!

I was bang into euro trance in the 90s, some of Tiesto's early work was top notch. I think it died for me around 2001 when the love parade never made it to Newcastle. Thank god I discovered psytrance then :D

Doh, I was only referring to the artists I quoted apart from A&B. :o

I've heard a above and beyond mix that was quite nice, a little to chilled for a club in my opinion... But it was ages back, I think it had that 'when the rush comes' tune in.

PSY is wicked for riffs, a bit plain tho sometimes for me. Would be better if they went on for longer into the track and not just cut out after the middle.

OK the following may sound totally wack to some but here goes...

I used to be big into trance from around 1998 - 2004, even though where I stayed in South Africa there were never massive raves but we got by ;) I'm a firm believer that you can't truly be into trance until you have experienced dancing to it! being in unison with the music, the vibe and the energy around you (ok I was pretty high at the time but still, this shaped how I subconsciously think to this day)

To me it's like my body is the graphic equalizer of the music and I become the music in my movement - it is very spiritual for me as I visualize myself as an orb of pure energy, pulsating to the beat, rippling out vibrations of, what I can only describe as, love energy :)

Anyway I digress and will share with you the Raver's Manifesto...

I am a Raver, This Is My Manifesto

Our emotional state of choice is Ecstasy.
Our nourishment of choice is Love.
Our addiction of choice is Technology.
Our religion of choice is Music.
Our currency of choice is Knowledge.
Our politics of choice is None.
Our society of choice is Utopian, though we know it will never be.
You may hate us. You may dismiss us. You may misunderstand us. You may be unaware of our existence.
We can only hope you do not care to judge us, because we would never judge you.
We are not criminals. We are not disillusioned. We are not drug addicts. We are not naive children.
We are one massive, global, tribal village that transcends man-made law, physical geography, and time itself.

We were first drawn by the sound. From far away, the thunderous, muffled, echoing beat was comparable to a mother's heart soothing a child in her womb of concrete, steel, and electrical wiring.

We were drawn back into this womb, and there, in the heat, dampness, and darkness of it, we came to accept that we are all equal. Not only to the darkness, and to ourselves, but to the very music slamming into us and passing through our souls: we are all equal. And somewhere around 35Hz we could feel the hand of a god at our backs, pushing us forward, pushing us to push ourselves to strengthen our minds, our bodies, and our spirits. Pushing us to turn to the person beside us to join hands and uplift them by sharing the uncontrollable joy we felt from creating this magical bubble that can, for one evening, protect us from the horrors, atrocities, and pollution of the outside world.

It is in that very instant, with these initial realizations that each of us was truly born.

We continue to pack our bodies into clubs, or warehouses, or buildings you've abandoned and left for naught, and we bring life to them for one night. Strong, throbbing, vibrant life in it's purest, most intense, most hedonistic form.

In these makeshift spaces, we seek to briefly shed ourselves of the burden of uncertainty for a future you have been unable to stabilize and secure for us. We seek to relinquish our inhibitions, and free ourselves from the shackles and restraints you've put on us for your own peace of mind. We seek to re-write the programming that you have tried to indoctrinate us with since the moment we were born. Programming that tells us to hate, that tells us to judge, that tells us to stuff ourselves into the nearest and most convenient pigeon hole possible. Programming that even tells us to climb ladders for you, jump through hoops, and run through mazes and on hamster wheels. Programming that tells us to eat from the shiny silver spoon you are trying to feed us with, instead of nourishing ourselves with our own capable hands. Programming that tells us to close our minds, instead of open them.

Until the sun rises to burn our eyes by revealing the distopian reality of a world you've created for us, we dance fiercely with our brothers and sisters in celebration of our life, of our culture, and of the values we believe in:
Peace, Love, Freedom, Tolerance, Unity, Harmony, Expression, Responsibility and Respect.

Our enemy of choice is ignorance. Our weapon of choice is information.
Our crime of choice is breaking and challenging whatever laws you feel you need to put in place to stop us from celebrating our existence. But know that while you may shut down any given party, on any given night, in any given city, in any given country or continent on this beautiful planet, you can never shut down the entire party.
You don't have access to that switch, no matter what you may think.
The music will never stop. The heartbeat will never fade.
The party will never end.
I am a raver, this is my manifesto.

I don't follow music trends and genres becasue I don't have any friends to force me into a 'scene', but I have never been able to really differentiate most electronic music so I simply don't label it.

I see trance as more synth and less bass, something that has an underlying atmosphere that you don't need to be in a club to experience. A lot of it sounds like filler though, and I don't like those bits. Sometimes I just skip to the point!

One of my faves:

Obvious classic - Used to play this a lot when I was at school/college.

Another fave

I tend not to follow music much anymore, if anything decent and new is out there... I won't have heared. Any introverts out there know a good source of hearing some new stuff?

Not a fan of the new stuff at the moment tbh, love almost all of the tracks posted here though. I like a mixture of the uplifting / sad stuff, especially when mixed by a dj who know's his / her stuff

I'm a trance head.. love euphoric, chillout trance with subtle beats but anything will do. Saw Armin and Gareth Emery at Air in Dec, was a good night.

I always get mixed up with all these electronica genres. Really digging the songs in the OP, definitely going to check more out.

I quite like Fabriclive 37 by Caspa and Rusko - good Dubstep record. I also dig a lot of London Elektricity's stuff.
