Wings of Prey Demo in here.

Was going to buy this from Steam, but reading the forums over there I think I will wait and see. People are complaining about the DRM and 3 activations limit.

Other than that fact that it's a pointless excercise (DRM that is) not buying due to the activations limit isn't worth any milage as they have already explicitly stated it isn't a hard limit and will happily allow more when needed.

Not buying due to the DRM they have chosen to use is a perfectly valid reason in my eyes though and had I known before hand they would not have seen my money.

Straying OT here, but why should it matter what sort of copy protection is used? If it doesnt stop you as a legitimate user playing the game then why deny yourself that enjoyment just because of the type of protection the game uses.

Perhaps I'm missing something here, but I dont give a monkeys what protection system is used as long as it works on my pc and I can relax n enjoy the game...Isnt that whats its about?

If you reach the activations limit (for whatever reason) and you can apply for more then what is the issue? Just buy the game (whatever it be) and have fun :)

It doesn't matter whatsoever apart from the fact that I take issue with the way Starforce handled previous issues, it is merely a personal principle at work that I'll not knowingly directly or indirectly support them.

Disappointed! I dunno why as it's not particularly bad, I think I was expecting too much, expecting it would be a successor to IL2. Wish I had read player reviews before making an impulse buy on steam.

Haven't bought it myself yet, for much the same reason. However I feel that given time it will mature into something that could rival the original IL2, It just doesn't feel complete yet as a sim. I'll revisit it later I think.

I hope so as right now i've no incentive to play it, it feels like £30 down the drain...As for not feeling complete, how can a sim not have something as fundamental as the flyby view? lol

I've been trying to play the demo, but I cant make the controls work :(

(On a keyboard) I don't mind the up/down arrow keys for up/down, and I'd change the left/right arrow keys for rudder, but then I have nothing for yaw (if that's the right word - you know, making the wings move from side to side), if I use other keys on the key board, I cant use the mouse, so I cant use the mouse button to fire. I wish I could use the mouse for left right like in BF2.

I tried my old joystick by the way, the game wouldnt recognise me trying to use it for the basic controls. When I used it for the Devices option, my plane immediately nose-dived into the ground, with me even touching the joystick. And yes, when I was holding the joystick it made no difference either :)

*Confused* :)

Sorry I should have been a bit clearer. The 6gb torrent is the full game that is locked to the demo missions. When you buy a key from Yuplay, you can unlock it to the full game.

Nate

Apologies, I misunderstood entirely, I thought you were looking to download the game itself. Don't have an answer to your question either, sorry

I have played the demo, I was wondering how easy it is to get a game online in the pc version

Very easy, in game browser that appears to work pretty well, could do with some enhancements but I'm sure they'll come in time.

I tried the Wings of Prey demo last night (the 1.2 GB version) and really enjoyed it. On High detail with 4xAA and 16xAF it ran at 40-60 fps at 1920x1200 with v-sync on and triple buffering enabled (via D3DOverrider). It plays well enough with the mouse and keyboard but I actually preferred the Xbox 360 controller as it's easier to lock onto a target with one of the buttons (I forget which not, possible LB). Shame the demo doesn't save the settings as the controller needs a few tweaks as the right analogue stick didn't seem to be used at all nor the D-pad.

I'd love to buy the game but there's no way I'm paying Steam's ridiculous prices. I rarely pay more than £25 for a PC game from Amazon or Play.com and most have been £20 or less. I'd also prefer the game on a disc in a box with a manual too, especially if I'm being asked to pay almost £30!!!

Does anyone know if this game is going to be released on disc?

P.S. Why does the game use Starforce protection if it isn't currently available on DVD?
