Drink driving record broken...

The Czechs are generally regarded to drink more than the British and the drink drive limit over here is 0. The solution is simple, if you know you have to drive somewhere but you're unsure if your body will be able to get rid of the alcohol in time then don't drink. I wouldn't call it unfair or draconian, after all you have a choice, most people over here hold the same opinion.

Technically everytime you get in a car you're putting lives at risk, because:
car=big & heavy
persons= small & puny
Car+ Impact with Persons(purposeful or Accidental) = Dead/ severly injured Persons!

... and sometimes slightly injured and not injured persons. :p

Throw him in prison and throw the person who hosted the party in with him.

Sorry I have no tolerance for drink drivers as I have lost more than one friend to drink driving, and they were not the ones doing it.

If you host a party where there is drink I feel some responsibility falls on you to make sure the people leaving are not hammered if they are driving.

What we used to do was take keys at the door and they did not get them back if we thought they had too much.

I'm sure some of you will flame me for my comments but I don't care, drink drivers are scum, no if and or buts about it.

What about people that read maps whilst driving, or drive 10mph over the limit?

I agree drink drivers are scum .. but just realise that we are both the end-product of a specific government campaign to make drink driving socially unacceptable. They didn't bother with 'putting lipstick on whilst driving is socially unacceptable' .. and people don't think its that serious.

MY FUTURE PREDICTION -- In 15 years it will be just as socially unacceptable to use the mobile whilst driving. 'MOBILE PHONE WHILE DRIVING = SCUM' will be the thread titles. You know why? Because the government has chosen, specifically, to make this action 'socially unacceptable' using all the advertising etc they can. They haven't chosen 'reading a map whilst driving' hence everyone won't think that is too bad. We think how we're told to think.

But yes, drink drivers are scum above and beyond other bad drivers. I've been taught very well how to think on that one .. but I am wise enough to understand why a lot of older drivers think it ain't that big a deal -- because they had years of it being about as serious as going 10mph over the speed limit -- before the government chose to alter the social status ...

How many more sober drivers are killed or kill others per year compared to drunks?

Impossible question really

there are a LOT more sober drivers than there are drunks so they will always have more accidents.

You would need to figure out the total number of drivers that are sober so you can work out a percentage based on number of accidents in that group

Then do the same for drunk drivers.

But since you can never know how many people are driving drunk at any given time it's impossible to get a true percentage.

That make the question unanswerable

Driving at 80mph on the motorway is very, very different to driving drunk.

Just out of interest do you consider someone driving with 0.1mg over the legal blood alcohol limit worse than someone driving at 80mph on the motorway in wet conditions with poor visibility?

You're moving the goalposts. I said nothing about the driving conditions.

In fact... that's a STRAW MAN.

As somebody else mentioned, the drink drive limit should be 0. There is too much confusion now, with people going 'I've had a couple, I'll be ok, I'm only a little bit over the limit' or 'I can have one more and still be under the limit' - it shouldnt be about whether you're under some number, it should be about how able you are to make the journey safely without putting anybody at risk, and even a small amount of alcohol has an impact on the way you drive.

I didn't say you did :confused: I just asked a fairly simple question. I'll make it easier for you - let's assume it dry with average visibility. Which do you consider worse?

Can anyone remember that TV programme that put a load of people in a bar, gave them as much alcohol as they felt they could handle if they had to drive / would consider driving. Not sure if it was on Channel 4 or BBC 2 but at the end they measured everyone's breath.

1 fat guy was drinking red wine all night, and 1 girl had 7 bacardi and coke and they were still under the limit. Another guy had 2 pints and he was over..

I'd like to watch it again but Google skills are weak today.

I'm not sure how bad being 0.1mg over the limit is. What's the limit?

35mg in breath

80 mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood

107 mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres of urine

Although you would ne be prosecuted for being 35.1mg on your breath you would have to fail the blood test.

That doesn't make any sense. Ok... I work at a pub, so your saying for every person I sell beer too and they drink drive I should be put in jail? :rolleyes: I think im probably on 5/6 life sentences at the moment!
