Hello, I'm making a leap of faith here and say that GTA4 is a HDR lighting game yes? If that is the case some of Nvidia cards have real issues supporting AA and HDR at the same time, BUT there is a solution. Download yourself a program called Nhancer www.nhancer.com once you have this great tool installed you need to go into its options (if needed i will give a better explanation later of how to do this I'm just not on my home PC) under compatibility options for HDR set it to "oblivion" and now u should be able to use either the Nvidia control panel or Nhancer itself to decide what AA you want to run. ;) hope that helps

apparently this works, also 180.84 driver seems to work for most people,i dont know about ATI gpus

interesting technigue called "Downsampling"
These people claim to have positive results so go do some research and see for yourself, hope that helps

The quoted post is someone suggesting something which they haven't tried and the second sounds like a different way of doing the same as enb mod+supersampling AA which if it works will be a large fps hit :(

yeah thing is no matter how you enable AA its gonna hit your fps unfortunately;)
TBH the whole game is a terrible port from console, shame as its a decent game,i would just forget about the AA and go for performance and enjoy the game as it is

It's not a terrible port from console. If you have a PC with around the same specs as an Xbox or PS3, you get similar or even better performance. It's not like the game ran brilliantly on consoles.

I have this game, boxed, sitting on my desk at the moment. Bought it a few days before the 5 quid sale for 10 quid. But hey, at least I got a box! I'm waiting until I upgrade my computer before I install it as on my current system, it'd be ropey to say the least.

Was just wondering, how would this run?

1920x1080 on an i5 at about 3.6-3.8ghz with an 8800gt (not upgrading my card yet)

i am also having the 'random lag' bug with this game, it seems to have gotten worse since getting my new card :( (upgraded from x1950)
when i start the game up first time it will run perfect for first few minutes then suddenly slow right down giving me really bad lag so i have to resart the game for it to go back to normal again, i have had to turn tex quality from high back down to medium setting to 'ease' the lag :(

and the commandline trick dosn't seem to help so i removed it

EDIT: every other game i have tested with this card works PERFECT on highest settings possible! crysis, far cry 2, Resi evil 5, COD-MW2, batman.... and others[/QUOTE]

yuor running at a very low res so more work for your cpu in a very cpu intense game.

what screen do you have ? overclock the q6600 or bigger res ease the load

actually the game ran better on ps3 as i know cause i had both, the game does not utilise a pc like it should do,its bad shoddy port, when you have to change things in the install folder like commandline and ENB mods then that tells you that its bad port duh
and just for the record my pc would crap all over an xbox and ps3 put together:D

Bear in mind the PS3 version would have run at 1280x720 with comparitively low details, textures etc. and only managed about 30fps in doing so. If I were to run my PC at similar specs I would expect to get massively faster frame rates. I already get 55-60fps at 1680x1050 (almost twice as many pixels to render) with most settings at high and the adjustment sliders sat around the middle. That's without changing a thing or using any mods.

i installed GTA 4 a couple of weeks ago to test my gtx260, it's just to buggy and cpu hungry to play, id rather stick needles in my eye than have shuddy gameplay, i uninstalled the game and let the game build dust :) bring back san andreas.

san andreas is loads better i agree, the game also feels a lot more immersive than gta4

how does lower res ease the load?

i like to use 1024x768 as its the same size i use for my desktop so its easier to alt-tab :)

ive nearly finished downloading it my spec is
q9550
2 x 9800gtx+
ill install it soon and post back should run goos i would have though full on everythin all the rest of them have

Play it on your PC at 720p, draw distance, vehicle density and detail distance under 20, textures and other effects no higher than medium.

If you get more than 30fps you have better performance than the PS3/Xbox version. Duh.

Very true, they only reason people complain about framerates on pc and not console is that they have no fps counter on consoles!
