GTA 4 performance

Tried all the settings shown in thevets nhancer post, activated profile, doesn't look any better. Benchmark results go from 60.06 fps (vsync off) with nhancer profile enabled and forced max settings to 64 fps with nhancer profile off and setting at all max except 7 draw distance. Benchmark is poop :D

GTAIV2010-01-1016-57-00-20.jpg

my settings with commandline method:D
constant 60fps drops to 40fps when there is lots going on,only using 1xgtx295
you dont need those silly ENB mods

You can play your settings way higher with a good framerate still, max it until your vram useage turns yellow or red.(mine goes red, still over 30fps, 40 most areas or more)

Is it true Windows 7 enables you to use more of this? my friend said he had 896mb available with a gtx260 on Vista but with Windows 7 he has 1792mb.

You got any in game comparison screens?

I can't make AA work with GTA4 using nHancer

From what I've read on other forums, you can't force AA on GTA4 with nHancer. The only way to do it is by using the ENB mod, which gives a massive framerate hit.

Well that's what I thought (and what my own experience backs up), hence commenting previously to thevet that his method won't give AA like ENB does, yet he's of the opinion it works

Which set is recommended then?

191.66 with modded inf,originally a quadro driver

Well - for me it works with AA and shadows. You got to select one of the "AA and HDR"-options under "Anti-aliasing compatibility". There a few modes in there - and I guess you need to try which one is the one working best for you. I am not sure if that depends on the graphics-card or if it depends on what technique was used ingame.

Stick me in the "Glad I only paid a fiver" camp too.

Not so much for the poor performance - with a dual core and 8800GTX, I knew I'd have to drop down the eye-candy - but for the double whammy of 'Games For Windows Live' and 'Rockstar Social Club' signup requirements. On top of Steam? **** that.

Yeah - my fault: Should have read the specs, etc etc. But what with this and Burnout Paradise's similar trick, I'm starting to think that the whole "PC gaming is dying!" brigade may have a point :( I bought a game to play - don't put bloody hurdles up every time I hit the launch button!

Sorry. Not entirely relevant, but I had to vent and I have no friends :p.

Yeah that kind of thing has put me off buying a few games, and it's probably only going to get even worse in the future with almost all games having it. gone are the good old days of disc in/install/play

I have this on PS3 but came to play it one day and all my saves for it had gone.

I was going to look into it on the PC as I thought the problems that were around at the start and lack of AA would be ironed out by now with paches. :(

I'll probably end up getting it tho.

Any chance you could give us a print screen of how you have nHancer set up?

Bump

After a little bit more looking around today, you seem to be possibly the only person in the world who has managed to get AA working in GTA with nHancer so i'd be very interested to see exactly how you've managed it and how it looks in game :)

Tried the modded inf quadro drivers, still didnt work with AA forced and took a framerate hit in gta4 as well :D I'm pretty sure the rendering method gta4 uses does not allow AA in dx9, and the reason enb mod works is that it seems to be more of a hack than a mod.

well on my gtx 295 the 191.66 works best for me after extensively testing all drivers from 186.18 upwards, just cause it works for me dont mean it works for you, also i use drivesweeper when installing/uninstalling drivers,at the end of the day GTA4 works great on my pc,so i dont really care how it performs on your pc...ill post some screenies soon

i am also having the 'random lag' bug with this game, it seems to have gotten worse since getting my new card :( (upgraded from x1950)
when i start the game up first time it will run perfect for first few minutes then suddenly slow right down giving me really bad lag so i have to resart the game for it to go back to normal again, i have had to turn tex quality from high back down to medium setting to 'ease' the lag :(

and the commandline trick dosn't seem to help so i removed it

EDIT: every other game i have tested with this card works PERFECT on highest settings possible! crysis, far cry 2, Resi evil 5, COD-MW2, batman.... and others

Im getting a strange sound problem now.

When I have it set to surround in game the voices become really quite, as if its not recognising the centre channel.

Ive tried changing a few settings but I cant seem to find a definite cause.

Any ideas?

Xonar DX sound card btw

i have put 14 hrs into this game and ive had enough, its just way too boring compared to san andreas for me,hopefully gta 5 will be better as i uninstalled this today from my pc...have fun guys;)

tbh guys i enabled super sampling with the recommended compatibility flags and i presumed that it worked as i had no jagged edges at all,i found the edges around the shadows do dissappear at a high setting/high resolution....i was not avoiding your question, why would i do that, after trying to help out?Anyhow i have uninstalled the game like i said as i have way way to much to play and not enough time;)
