2x 5770's or 1x 5850?

I'm sorry but I'm going to correct you here.. its called Crossfire not SLi ;)

Lots of people here are Happy with their 5770 Crossfire setups, I've not found one review that suggests 'Choppy Framerates' or naff performance from them.

Yet the 5870 & 5850 owners seem to make out that the 5770 CF suffers from this.

We need Martin1991? in here.. he sold his 5870 and bought 2 x 5770s.

I indeed sold my 5870 which was 24/7 clocked at 1050/1250, and I'm since using 5770 crossfire clocked at 950/1250.

Do I notice any difference?
Not really. I can see the microstuttering which is annoying.
Drivers are tempermental, I.E, I've found only the 9.12 hotfix to work fully stable. If I try the 10.1 beta, I get a lot of lock up's.

Currently playing mass effect at 1920x1080. High : 60 FPS, Low : 60 FPS, AVG : 60 FPS (Vynsc lol)

Crysis on medium settings at 5760x1080 will run at 50+ FPS.
Crysis on a mix of high and medium settings at 5760x1080 40+ FPS.
That's on an unpatched Crysis, it runs flawlessly.

Overall, if you're choosing between a 5850, or a 5770 crossfire, I'd take the crossfire.

Although the VRAM doesn't add up, when I tried AA in DOWII at 5760x1080, textures were missing as it didn't have enough VRAM, whereas for a test, I did the same with my 5770 crossfire, the textures were all there..

what a load of **** they don't consistantly outperform the 5870 there are plent of test out there that prove that think you talking about the fact the 3 main testers alll use nearly the same set-up and games/benchmarks to test lets face it what are the common ones

crysis,far cry,cod,vantage u know them all

it makes me laugh you cf5770 owners never seem to mention the minimum frame rates the 5870 out performs the 5770CF on nearly all but a few test
think i'd sooner have the gpu thats gives me better min FPS and maybe 2-3 less fps max

A stupidly biased view.
I'll admit, there's SOMETIMES an issue with FPS dropping, but that's in a minority of games, Such as DOWII (Which is notorious for its bad coding ever since launch, GTX285's were unable to select Ultra settings etc.)

Also, lets try comparing the 5770 crossfire on new games, games which will include more development in Crossfire, these games are where the 5770 crossfire shines, and will continue to do so as more games are released.

I have always had single cards in the past but hankered after trying CF\Sli and now I finally have I'm delighted with the results. I think the price of the Sapphire Vapor-X on Ocuk is terrific value now and I'm well pleased with my two.:D

single card solution is always better for me at least had loads of trouble with 3870 crossfired

That was 2 generations of ati card ago, crossfire has matured very well. I think many perceptions of sli/cf are based on bad experiences with them long ago and are not comparable to how they perform now.

Yet there is still a bit of CF bashing going on, is it just ignorance or as some have said the 5870\5850 owners are spitting the dummy.:D

When I first saw the performance of a 5770 CF agaisnt my 5870, I was a little peeved.
I assume they feel that way.
Now IF the price of the 5870 was priced correctly, it SHOULD be around 240 pound, and the 5850 at around 180.

If that was the case I'd probably never have tried CF 5770 and that would have been a shame. I can see me getting a 5850 at some point in the future if the prices fall to the levels they should be at.:D

A 5870 at 240 pound would be much more preffered than a 5770 CF due to consistency.
At the moment, there's 80-100 pound seperating a 5770 CF to a 5870, which is why the 5770 CF is more favourable.

between 5830 coming out could be best buck card for performance

Pure speculation though as there is no info on the power, or lack of, on this card. Didn't think the 4830 lived up to its hype and it couldn't find a niche in the market place and consequently didn't sell well.:)

I'd go for a bigger single gpu over 2 weaker ones but at the end of the day it depends on your budget.
