2TB SEAGATE BARRACUDA SATA-II HARD DRIVE - JUST £79 inc VAT

So was this deal just an alternative way of load testing the infrastructure that the site hosting company provides? ;)

Maybe not, but it's still not a bad way to test as realistic load can be difficult to simulate!

They host the site in a no-expense-spared data center so bandwidth/infrastructure is never an issue.

The problems were software related.

I usually do a quick format, then check with wd diagnostics tool to make sure its bad sector free, before i trust it with my data....

Was just reading about quick vs full format. The vast majority of full format time is scanning for bad sectors. Do a seach for quick format vs full format in google. If its the first install best to check it thoroughly.

Congratulations to all those who received their awesome hard drive on a bargain!

Still annoyed at myself for not setting the reminder properly AND forgetting! The deal was for forum members only and obviously people have signed up to take advantage, which is fair play. Slight bit of green eyed monster from myself there, undeniably.

I wonder if it is possible to do a similar offer (hypothetically) and make it only so that those who, say fall under the Members Market requirements, get the good deal?

Just wondering if it's possible more than asking OcUK to do it?

1.29tb free space left on mine already, can I get another one for the same price?? :p

Loving it by the way, seems quiet and fast. Transfer speed from a 1TB Samsung F1 to this Baracuda was on average 90-95mb/s.

Though id wait a few days for the forum to calm down. (never been a fan of excessive moaning).

Just like to say thankyou OCuk for this offer, i was one of the lucky ones, yes i did i propblems with the shopping basket, yes visa secure crashed on me, yes it wasent easy but i got there in the end.

Thankyou also for honouring the extra drives that were shipped. You didnt have to, (all the people that say you should legally are wrong, a receipt or email of an order is just an intention to buy, and the contract is not exchanged until the order is agreed and the item is shipped, OCuk could have cancelled the extra orders at any time, but thankyou for not doing so, you would not get the same level of service from **** or tesco)

So in all im happy with my new drive, new forum member but been with OCuk since 2008 before anyone points another newbie finger.

BTW if i was unlucky in getting a drive i would not be having a meltdown and sharing it with everyone. Some people need to get a grip and put everything into perspective.

Once again thankyou and i hope you still do something similer in the future.

just out of interest what do they show as in windows? 1.85 ish?

agree should be for loyal customers 250 posts + or similar

tbh that's a bit unfair, personally ive spent thousands of pounds with OCUK but my post count is pathetic because I don't like to chat on forums that much, am I not a loyal customer?

BTW ty for the shot at this great deal, I didn't get one the adrenaline while getting it into the basket rushing my card detailss, etc was fun :)

I've reinstated this thread to ask - has anyone who got one of these drives had any problems? I'm one of the 'blessed' who secured one, and it has recently been flagged as 'failing' on my Windows Home Server. First it failed altogether, but I took it out and put it on another PC. After running chkdisk which fixed a few things, it then passed all tests. However, I put it back in the WHS and a week later it's flagged as 'failing' again...

Anyone else having problems? Do you think it sounds like this drive is on it's way out?

Seagate has had a lot of problems with their larger drives including pcb and bios failures.

I had a 1.5TB drive pop after 2 weeks, they were very good and directly replaced it.

Smart status failures are also common.

Would that indicate impending failure, or simply a problem with Smart reporting?

Do you think Smart failures are reason enough to get an RMA, or do I need to wait until the disc actually dies (and risk data loss)? Any thoughts from an OCUK person?

smart errors are just errors, they can be fromother sources as well. i've had a dodgy sata cable cause partitions to disappear and so on. didn't you say it was ok in another PC?
