Entire AMD GPU Lineup Refreshed in 2H 2010

Looking at Nvidia finances over the last few years they would have no financial reason not to be able to break new ground. ATI are a tiny, value orientated company with a fraction of the budget Nvidia have, yet they are giving them a sound beating by just building the best cards they can.

If Nvidia just concentrated on building the best cards, I'm sure they could make money.

Anyway that's just my uneducated opinion, we are getting off track.

Nvidia have generally sold more cards but ATi seem to be much more focused and efficient as of late - while Nvidia have been sitting a little complacent. Hopefully Fermi will result in some solid competition performance and price wise. As much as I don't like Nvidia's buisness practices, we need them to stay in the game to keep prices down and AMD on their toes.

I hope fermi is a good, it keep the industry moving forwards

but I got a funny feeling that fermi is going to land up being a FX, that would be bad news

Depends how you consider giving them a beating... nVidias share of the gaming market GPUs rose by over 2% in Dec 09 whilest AMD's actually shrunk ~1.5%. Might look like small numbers but thats actually quite a big change. Tho I dare say nVidias share of the enthusiast gaming market took a hit and probably not a small one.

It might end up sounding like an FX and drinking power - tho I don't think its really quite as bad as certain people make out... but performance should be reasonable worst case and price while high isn't likely to be hugely higher than the competition.

nVidia have a good design generally its just a case of manufacturing the thing :S

Na the reason why I said bad thing is because I had one and my god what a mistake that was expensive piece of ****

If only it was that simple.

For mature hardware enthusiasts, yes... it is.

These companies do not give the SLIGHTEST **** about you... no matter how much money you spend on them... and yet people will come on a forum and embarass themselves by getting into pathetic arguments that for the most part have no basis in rationality, but are literally defending the company name. The same company that takes your cash year after year, and is happy to churn out the same old **** year after year. Which, some people buy, because they are "loyal". Right.

I will continue to buy whichever hardware provides me with the best bang for my buck at a given time. A company deserves to do their best to maintain OUR loyalty, not the other way around, and the way they can do that is to product fast cards at a good price, that aren't rebranded, re-hashed versions of the last ones. If they can't do that, then my money will go on the other guy, whoever it is. It really is that simple.

I'm not loyal to any company personally - but at a personal level I don't get on with ATI on several useability aspects which leaves nVidia as the closest fit for my needs.

Well if we are remaining neutral, maybe we could get back on track

Sorry but no. What happens is people come on forums explain that they use a technology only offered by Nvidia and then get labeled by plonkers as being "brand loyal". If I can't use an ATI card for my purposes why the **** would I want an ATI card? If NV are the only ones you can offer me a solution then of course I'm going to prefer them.

nVidia as the closest fit for my needs.

Which is why I said "majority" rather than all, for example I have no interest in physx, I don't even know what CUDA is and all that leaves me with is which card has the most grunt for the least cash.

I don't buy nVidia cards for PhysX - tho I wish hardware physics was used more extensively in gaming... and my CUDA useage is very slim and not a reason when buying gaming cards.

As an example of one reason:

I have problems with the AA and AF implementations on ATI cards - the optimizations they use may fool most people but don't work for me - I need double the amount of AA on ATI cards compared to nVidia to block out the distracting subconscious perception of jagged edges.

I agree. I have noticed having owned 4870/5850/8800GT and gtx260 that ATI needs more AA to match the quality of Nvidia.

However, since I have a card from ATI which at double the AA over my GTX260 gives me faster framerates, I'm not particulary bothered.

I just buy the best card I can afford when upgrading, be it ATI or NV I don't care and have never understood why peeps seem to care either.

Tho I do have to say, the best card I've ever owned has to the ATI 9800pro - for its day WINNER. Still got it and more than likely still works, just can't bring myself to get shot of it if you all know what I mean.

To be fair, the number of people who have brand loyalty for a valid reason such as what you suggest are out numbered by the braying masses who jump into threads to derail them yet again with their tiresome spiel. Also to suggest that somebody else should buy a card because it fulfils your very narrow criteria is a bit daft. Nvidia bring a lot of value added features to the table, but to many what is still most important is raw framerate numbers.

Case in point, what is this very thread about?

Do I want all the eye candy I can get ? You bet I do , so whether that includes PhysX , better AA etc then so be it, I want it cos I'm paying !

What I'm not interested in is needing my GPU to run at at a gazillion FPS and benching, as long as its playable with a decent level of support then that does me and that alone influences what card I buy.
