For those of you dont know, CSP is what Source should have been. It is 1.6 remade on the Source engine, with improved graphics etc., to make it more appealing for competitions etc. There are also a number of additions unique to CSP - Slightly tweaked radar, less weapons, sounds and a few other things.

All in all, Im really impressed by it. You should all go give it a shot, it is everything that a true sequal to CS should be.

I have faint memories of this during 1.6, good to see it's not been ditched.

From the official F.A.Q:

Does CSP feature wall spamming/banging)?
Yes.

Do grenades also do damage through walls in CSPromod?
Yes.

Does jumping make any type of sound in CSPromod?
No, and it never will.

Is disguising footstep sounds possible in CSPromod?
No. There is no way to disguise or mask footstep sounds in CSPromod (aside from +duck and +walk).

Has the "duckhop" feature (the ability to jump slightly by tapping +duck) been included in CSPromod?
Yes. However, it is not possible to exploit this feature to mask player movement sounds.

Is there any restriction on the number of players who can simultaneously boost in CSPromod?
No. Only a skybox or physical ceiling can limit players from boosting.

Having not played Counter Strike Source, were any of these things removed?

So for those of us who missed the "good old days" of CS1.6, what exactly is wrong with CSS and what makes this better?

I've just started playing CS:S again, I actually forgot how awesome that game was!!

Though I'm still a total noob at it!!! :D

Supposedly CSS is for bitches and kids. It's apparently been dumbed down for the masses, is poor gameplay and has a nasty feel to it.

Don't see it myself, so i expect it's just another elitist straw clutch. 1.6 players refute CSS, 1.5 players refute 1.6, 1.3 players are true Pr0s... that sort of thing.

spent last night playing this and a huge improvement over CSS but still not perfecct for competative play but its still a work in progress.

for those above who dont think theres anything wrong with source, and dont understand why this si needed just readup on www.cspromod.com it should give you some oppinions from the competative CS scene and the issues which source has.

throdgrain - its not nonsense, however it does only apply for those playing competatively. the only reason half of the pro teams moved over to source was because of the sponsors. and the only reason the sponsors are there is because amd etc cant sell hardware based on a game pre 2000 - please dont flame on something that either doesnt apply to you because you dont / never have played at a high enough level to realise why source is so gimped for competative play or because you want to start a war with cs fanatics like me :P

This is a load of nonsense really CSS is fine for matches, easily the best online game for competitions.

Lol. Im going to go ahead and guess that you never played CS?

CSS has been dumbed down and ruined. Everything ranging from sound changes (everyone being quieter, jumping etc.) right through to aiming - Try spraying on CS or CSP and you wont get very far. Not that it would really matter if you aimed properly and burst fired on CSS as the net code is so dam awful it probably wouldnt reg anyway. The maps are complete joke, absolutely ruined and unsuibtable for competetive play - Random items everywhere, soundscapes, laughable changes..

I could go on for hours. I havn't even touched on wallbanging, nades, smokes, flashes, etc. etc.

Well, my clan are in the top 20 in ED, have been for a long time. We've been playing CSS and CS before it since CS 1.0, so, whilst obviously ED isnt the top of the tree I do feel fairly qualified to comment ;) Niether do I think anyone was "flaming" you, (in true cskiddiespeek), just disagreeing that such a thing is really needed.

Sorry, what clan was it you play for?

edit, Sorry, that was pointlessly arguementative, it must be early in the morning :) It just dont seem any point to me, we have been playing css for years and years, its old now, the vast majority of people I speak to / play with are more than happy with it, and certainly wouldnt consider going back to 1.6 oor anything like that.

ED not being "top of the tree" is quite the understatement ^^

I stopped playing a while back. Clan I played in was #GoD?, who were by no means "pro" but we took things quite seriously.

Eitherway to keep things aside theres a good post on the csp website, where the developer answers public questions, and i think there was a "why have you created csp?" and similar. A lot of points are covered there.

And in response to your comment saying that you dont feel such a thing is really needed. The competative CS player base is dropping year by year. For those who believe it is still the best paltform for competative fps play then ofcourse it is needed. The community is split between the hardcore sticking with 1.6 for the consistency and the balance and those who have moved to source and accept a level of randomness among other issues in return for some extra gfx and unecesarry physics.

The developers of this mod have spent years of there time trying to save the game we love and bring the community back together, they just need some suppport, and this recent beta is awesome.. cant stand it when they have obviously put so much into this "mod" (its not a mod its been totally re coded) for a selection of 1.6 fanboys to not give it a chance and source fanboys to claim its already 'fine'

If you cant easily get to the top of ED, then you're really not very qualified to speak about it.

And whoever asked what team I played for - In Source I played for Converge for a year or so, placed 2nd in the first source WCQ qualifiers then all rage quit because of the absolutely terrible reg and went our own ways - I went back to 1.6. Granted, they've improved it by leaps and bounds since then, but its still nowhere near as good as 1.6. Other team members went on to 4Kings and other top teams.

Throdgrain, learning to accept Source's faults and getting used to them isnt the same as them not being there at all. Like you said, youve been playing it years, youve just come to accept it - Its still not good enough.

and i dont understand how you can play a game for 10 years (CS 1.0 - 2000 i believe) and not appreciate the effort these people are putting in to keeping it going.

Heh, so you're saying that if you're not good enough to get to #1 in ED easily then you're not qualified to comment?

So, that truely is a promod then, and is aimed at 1% of cs/css players by you're own admission.

Fair enough then. I'll never play at the level required to be worthy of your promod, and niether will 99.99% of posters on here either.

Have fun with it though :p
