I paid £130 for my 965 and £130 for my top end Gigabyte mainboard. The same would be like an extra £120 to get an i7 920 and decent mainboard

That system even when overclocked to 4ghz cannot beat an i7 920 at stock.

So of course its going to be 120 quid cheaper. Its a slower product:p

LOOK i7 is more expensive than amd tech by quite a large margin £170 difference using the cheapest parts, if someone wants AMD let them have AMD don't qoute and post your 965 looks slow look my i7 at stock beats it, maybe he already knows and don't care personally i think your just one of these epeen freaks who likes to act clever

No,

Stay Calm and take a few deep breathes. You're loosing the arguement and resorting to insults...Which we all know is not very clever.

Its comparing hardware.

I highlighted the Phenom II and the fact that its only 60 quid cheaper than i7 920 and yet when overclocked to 4ghz is slower than a 920 at stock.

This is not AMD value for money. But you all seem to ignore this fact to backup this nonsense debate.

Hello bigjimmyauk,

I would be sad to see you go, don't let a single individual get you down, please avoid being drawn into an off topic discussion with someone who is attempting to upset you . . . .take some time to calm down and you will start laughing actually! :p

These are the two items of hardware under scrutiny in this one thread . . .

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620

PERSONALLY I THINK YOU JUST NEEDED YOUR DAILY FIX OF EPEEN

there was no need to comment that your stock i7 was faster than his 4ghz 965

Now you are being silly.

Why on earth not?

It merely just highlights the top end AMD is hugely overpriced against INTEL's 920 series chips.

This info is useful for people about to buy new hardware.

Spend the extra 60 quid over the 965 and have a fare superior PC on every level.

Clocked to 4ghz the 965 is left for dust.

easyrider, I respectfully ask you to to please refrain from spamming this thread with off topic posts, I would also urge you to rethink the way you speak with our new forum members, they are very important people and you are just being too gruff with them . . .

I think its time for you to leave and make your own thread, many thanks for your co-operation and have a nice weekend! :)

Yes, this has been my whole point in all the threads you have responded to my posts. I don't need anything as fast as i7, I just game. The £120-£200 saving (depending on choice of ram) I can put to a new graphics card.

EDIT: I don't think anyone is arguing over the perfomance of the i7, it's the price per pound. For the majority of people i7 is overkill, money could be saved or spent on graphics cards. monitors, games, cases, better psu etc etc etc

EXACTLY

From a run i done earlier, HT disabled @4ghz
Hey setter! :)

respects to the Irish massive! . . . from a benchmarker POV there is certainly good and proper reasons to invest extra funds £££ into a INTEL® Core™ i7 920 system . . . however I think if we look at the bigger picture a lot of folks in these forums are not avid/competitive benchers and some of them don't need to pay good money to inflate the imaginary e-peen (not saying this about you btw! :p) . . .

What we are doing here in this one particular thread is using the AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620 as a baseline and asseing what the Core™ i7 920 brings to the stable for it's incredible price premium? . . . as I said in my O.P the Nehalem does fit certain users needs well but it's good to step-back and look at the bigger picture . . . I think Hyper-Threading is a great technology under ideal situations and kudos to the INTEL® engineers for that one, I would say that is the main advantage their flagship has but ouchie on the premium to enjoy it!

Its 60 quid difference though.

965 £144

920 £204

Most people already have the case and PSU etc..in place and they just want to upgrade the Chip mobo and ram.

From this standpoint 60 quid more is not a lot to pay for the extra HIT.

Never mind the resale value.

easyrider, can you not read? . . . do you know anything about netiquette? . . . please stop posting off topic hardware, many thanks, I don't think I could make this any clearer!

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620

Depends which mainboard you buy doesn't it and if you go triple channel for i7, and lets be honest who hasn't got tripple channel on i7?

I bought a new case for mine.

People could pocket the money and make a saving :p

EDIT: are we only allowed to talk about the 620 and i7 920?? :( I'll get me coat.

Off out on the lash anyway!

  • INTEL® Core™ i7 920
  • AMD® Athlon™ II X4 620

I would kindly ask anyone that contributes further to this thread to only comment on the performance difference betrween these two chips and if you think the premium is worth it . . .

If easyrider baits you into an off topic discussions please just ignore him, if he makes an on topic point about either of the two items under scrutiny please feel free to engage him! :D

On Topic only please . . . . many other threads in this forums, thanks for reading!
