Hey dude, if you really want to get over the learning curve, get skill queues built etc, I also recommend the 101st space marine acadamy, they will get you into the game and into decent sized gangs and then onto anywhere you want to go. See my post above for info...

Nearly lost my ship to that recently... had 3 heavy cruisers warp in (I'm still doing L1s) - hit the MWD to get in range (and out their optimal) and slap straight into an astroid - stuck right in the middle of their optimal... only just managed to warp out with 1 bar of structure left.
 
i havent played in so long... my sub lapsed at the end of the summer cus i know it wud ruin my 3rd year of uni if i kept it! turns out, i dont need eve to do that! :D

Just bringing badly fit ships (i dont mean like cant use all T2, but just ships with the wrong guns, wrong ewar etc.) and bad fleet compersitions to an area of lowsec known for its large pirate corps (50+ members) and sitting in a safe spot and getting destroyed swiftly probed and destroyed.

There FC's need to pick their targets better and choose better ships to fight in. 6 or 7 T1 cruisers can do some serious damage before quickly getting out. You might loose one or two, but insurance payout covers it. When picking the right targets, they can do some serious damage, but they just dont do that.
 
A good FC is key to a lot, we only had about 60 in our fleet yesterday, yet we kept warping to decent spots 60km from the SBU we'd placed down, which was being attacked buy a fleet of over 300 including over 100 capital ships, and we managed to get a bunch of logistic/battlecruiser/inty/frig/dictor kills for very few losses. Its all about the game plan ;)
 
lol, i love this game. just starting to get bored mining, waiting to skill up when i'm playing with the map and suddenly discover a way to show locations of available mission agents.

i love the learning curve :D

Took me a while to find that as well and I still don't have a clue what the system charts are showing me and whether they're any use. :D

haha, i love games like this though, so many games these days don't even spoon feed you, they just insert the tripe directly in to your stomach :p

should be able to fly a maller within a couple of days, just need to then skill up so i can fit better modules, that should give me enough power to do missions until i can afford a mining barge (and can skill up to it).
