*** Official BioShock 2 Thread ***

I've only ever had problems with Catalyst AI so i always disable it - pointless option!

Nonsense, playing it on hard atm, sure it's tough but aslong as you tool up before you go to gather adam or something you'll find it a breeze.
Yeah, set to Hard the beginning of this game is rather tricky, but once you get going it gets surprisingly easy :p

I have found one bloody great big issue of a bug however in this game and it won't affect most of you but will seriously annoy the hell out of those of us who have hardware calibrated monitors whether you're playing in DX9 or DX10 in this game.

When you load the game your LUT is reset for the game so you lose calibration - this is fine as /a/ game will restore the LUT when you exit.

I remember having this issue in Bioshock 1 as well and looks like 2K games have not bothered to sort this.

What actually happens is your LUT is reset, you exit the game and the LUT is not restored. If I click my calibration software's LUT loader (which automatically runs at Windows boot to load the LUT) nothing happens, I have to log off then log back on and click my LUT loader and only then will my calibration be restored.

So what this means is I can only play this game when I can afford to log off and close all my apps/docs after playing unless I like my eyes being annoyed by innaccurate colours and white/black levels.

Complete arse.

Nice gadget pack thanks for that!

Well I just completed it.

All prior judgements are taken back, the last 2 levels make up for any lack of depth or atmosphere, they are absolutely amazing. Some really bizarre and eerie stuff along with some classic Bioshock humour.

The ending was...satisfying, I'll leave it at that.

I have 2 issues with the game besides the slow start which unfortunately even with the great last...3rd ish is a real drag.

1. Weapons + Plasmids - Awesome idea in theory, in practise it just feels too hectic, changing plasmids mid battle could get really confusing and the same with weapons, plus you have different ammos so the list of buttons your clicking while trying to strafe away from a big sister, lay a wind trap and infuse it with fire whilst swapping to armor piercing ammo for the Gatling gun for instance gets a bit mind boggling and honestly gave me a headache. I liked it mostly but again it was just a bit too much to get used to.

******SPOILER ALERT******

2. There seemed to be a few....holes...in the plot, mainly involving characters, Tenenbaum for instance disappears completed after about 30 minutes of gameplay never to be seen or heard from again, also of the two "moral choice" characters you encounter, 1 gives you a few radio messages and then disappears, the other one has no part at all after you decide what to do with him. It just makes the entire moral choices surrounding both characters seem rather pointless, I mean yes they influence the ending but it would have been nice for instance if they were to help you at the end or something like that, rather than drop off the face of Rapture as soon as your done with them.

Oh and regarding my last comment about the main antagonist, her being a loon and all actually works quite well, you just don't get an idea for how loony she is until later in the game at which point it fits rather well.

Also the game is rather on the short side.

******SPOILER END******

Just starting to get into it, felt a bit let down when it started wasnt enjoying it up until i got a few more plasmids.

Drillrush feels a bit over powered but you need to use fuel so it kinda balances it, played 2 hours and feel like im quite far in im hoping its not a short game tbh :/

10-11 hours, cleaned it out on normal. Fantastic game but I don't know if I can be bothered to start again on hard with no vita and get the last few SP achievements.

*SPOILER*

Adopting and protecting the little sisters became a serious chore after a while, I wish I had just chucked them straight into the vent as I didn't need all the plasmids/tonics.

I love just how mad everyone is in rapture, lamb and sir alexander the great were fantastic.

Seeing rapture through the eyes of a little sister had me impressed, though Eleanor being a big sister at the final stage was even more so.

Did anyone get their hands on that teleportation plasmid? Or are you only supposed to be able to touch it and chase it around that level?

*END SPOILER*

I got ending 1 (adopt/spare/spare/kill) gotta say, it was quite simply crap. Wasn't impressed with the anti-climax.

Was it worth the cash? Well it included BS1 on steam and the SP is awesome fun. Have yet to try MP however I've heard that it isn't so great but I didn't get it for MP.

So I'd say yes.

The DRM does bother me though, utterly pointless as it was cracked and on torrent before steam unlocked it. The GFWL is a fail, too much like a 360.

Wife's got her pals coming around tonight, once i get little one off should have a good 3 or 4 hours uninterupted time to have a good bash at this :)

Finally got it downloaded off steam and time for work :/ lol ah well tonight will be a good night, i can't wait :D !!!!21!!!!!11!:)!!! 1

I thought I'd jot down my initial thoughts on this for anyone that's interested.

I'm not impressed with this at all. It feels like an add-on for Bioshock rather than a new game. I'm not saying it's bad, just really mediocre.

Story
Story - I'm not far in, but it feels like a re-hash of the Bioshock 1 story so far. Swap a man for a woman, bish bash bosh and off we go again. It's almost like Blue Shift for HL1, where it starts off like the original game and it's a nice tribute, except that in this case it just feels unoriginal where any nostalgia is overshadowed by a copy cat notion. Like they're just trying to re-do the original.

Now this I know is nit picking, but it would have been nice if the intro was rendered in game, it was showing "gameplay" so it would have been more immersion for me if it was live.

Gameplay

As good as first one. Although that in itself is a little bit of a problem; I don't really feel like a Big Daddy. I know I'm meant to be a Delta or whatever, but it's like I'm too quick and take too much damage too quickly.

Graphics
Graphics are ok, but they're the same graphics from the original and we know the UT3 engine is capable of better (taking more recent UT3 engine games as an example). Also there's something about the on-screen text that seems cheap to me, I know it's a minor point but it kind of feels cheaply tacked on if that makes any sense.

Audio
Music I guess is as good as the original. It's a bit unoriginal but then it is Rapture again so I can forgive that. Sound effects are as good as the first. One thing that I do find a bit odd is the Big Daddy noises the player makes, it's like the noises tell me that I'm a hulking monster, but then I'm sitting around listening to tapes and watching TV screens. Just doesn't feel right to me that I'm meant to be as smart as the guy from the first game, but as crazy strong as my worst enemies from the first.

Controls
Now I was disappointed that they weren't including 360 controller support on account of how well they did it in the first. Now that I've played the game I'm honestly even more disappointed as I can't see any reason why this wouldn't be playable with a 360 controller. I'm baffled why they'd drop it.

Aside from that it's the standard keyboard and mouse affair. I did find at first that the mouse sensitivity was way to high. Oh and also it feels like the left and right mouse clicks should be the other way around; you use biotics from your left hand so to me it feels more natural to use the left click to use them and vice versa for weapons.

Multiplayer
Multi-player is split into a separate executable from the single player game, which screams console port to me. Not to mention that there's no dedicated servers which only further confirms it (for me anyway). As for the actual quality of the multipalyer game, I can't comment yet. I couldn't get on to a game last night after my first matchmaking attempt failed. I only tried once though just before bed.

Menus
The menus seem a little lacking compared to the first I think. Might just be me but they seem a little console-ish in their simplicity.

Just an extra bit
If you've seen the trailers then the following doesn't really count as a spoiler:

The bit when you're walking around underwater and seeing Rapture for the first time (so to speak), just looked pap. It was almost like badly done sky boxes or something. Didn't really feel any of that epic "OMG underwater city" stuff that we got from the first 5 minutes of the first one.

All that said, it's not a bad game. It just feels mediocre and sponging off the success of the first.

Bah, I'm getting hideous mouse control like in Bioshock 1

Set in game sensitivity to 1 and it's completely fubar, 2 is not so bad but lots of input lag and too fast. Tried disabling vysnc in game and I get a black screen - few ESC or space bar presses later I'm back at the options screen with vysnc still on.
Tried forcing vsync on with nhancer and reduced mouse lag but this time turning fov left-to-right or right-to-left and I get intermittent graphic corruption at same time as a micro pause. Looking up/down is fine

Disabled SLI on my GTX 295 and it still happens...

I remember the dodgy mouse from first game but can't remember how I fixed it. Looking online shows people are editing the ini file several times but I don't remember having to do that

The whole fun in the first game was that you're this fairly vunerable guy in a messed up distopian world, and is pretty much a horror game because the last thing you want is to turn around and see a Splicer ready to gut you. That was awesome, and when a game has you dreading every encounter it's particularly good, and anyone who says they didn't walk around with their back to the wall just in case is probably lying.

Then they go and make you a walking tank with a drill the size of a man.
