The *Official* Eve Online Thread

If you've done the Sisters of Eve arc (and could beat Dagan on your own) then I wouldn't be too worried about the a few cruisers and frigates. If you are then once they lock on to you just align to a planet or stargate and be ready to warp out before your armour is gone.

I never beat dagan on my own, I got my mate to bring a maurauder in with a two year old toon and pwn him in about two shots... Seems funny now I think about it...

I done dagen up close with 8 ion blasters, but boy was he hard, at one point i thought i was not going to outlast him.

That mission guide site that MotherMayI posted above is handy and I use that as well. I've only come acros a warp scrambler in one level 2 mission so you are almost always able to warp away if you're in trouble.

When just starting out it's very important that if you are in doubt as to how long you'll last then get your ship aligned before engaging the enemy properly. I can't stress enough how important this is at the start as the seconds saved from being aligned before going to warp saved my ass many a time.

Make sure you're ship is insured and give it a go. :)

I was using 5 medium hybrid turrets with antimatter rounds and three drones in my Thorax and I had to reload before I finished him off.

Dagen isn't that hard - and I'm rubbish at the game - I just loaded a destroyer up with blasters, AB'd to Orbit 500m and then wore him down. (That only works as gallente with the choices I made tho) as other races/choices he will change config.

I'm pretty sure the new doomsdays released in dominion can shoot structures now...

And you can't take several systems a day, you have to online SBU's, that takes 24hrs, then you have to put the TCU into reinforcement, that takes a few hours then its reinforced for another 24 hours, then you have to take it down properly, so thats two days with no resistance... And heaven forbid they have an infrastructure hub / station / cynojammers :o And then you have to anchor your own tcu which takes ages as well...

No1 takes multiple systems in one day any more... Multiple systems simaltaniously over 3 days is possible but a stretch for even the biggest alliances...

Erm what? SBUs take three hours to online and TCUs eight hours.

Did my first proper PvP last night :D

Went into low sec with in a very cheap Omen (mostly T1 fittings just to get a feel of it. T2 heatsink, adaptive nano and damage control) with my corpmate flying a vexxor (wasn't really optimised for pvp, still have its mission running armor!)

Warped to a Asteroid belt, got followed in by an interceptor that didn't last well against 5xT1 +3xT2 hobgoblins but then his backup turned up. They were flying an omen and a vexxor too lol.

We both got killed although I very nearly finished off the enemy Omen before dying. 23% hull left. The Omen pilot was new to pvp also, the vexxor was a little more experience judging from the age of the account (a year).

Was great fun and learnt a lot (namely to make sure my corpmate is actually shooting something we should have definitely killed the omen!) - in retrospect I think we should have gone for the enemy vexxor or got rid of its drones :)
Only lost 7million worth of ship, and the insurance payout was 4.5m :)

Wish I had the skill for T2 lasers! I can fit an omen mostly with T2 other than that.

*first kill* :D

I am tempted to pick up this game. Will I like it?

Want a game that is quite in depth where you can tinker with what you use quite a bit. Like a lot of choice with an MMO as to what I want to do and whilst I know I could do very little about this, I like a reasonably mature gamerbase.

Heard this is a good game but quite time consuming if you want to do anything decent?

Anyway if someone can give me a brief rundown I would be grateful, Im tempted to give it a good try.

I tried EVE a couple of years ago but didn't give it much of a chance because it's all a bit daunting to a noob.

I'm giving it another go now after a break from MMOs (MMO burnout) and whilst it's still quite scary at first I'm determined to give it a chance (and pay attention to the rather good tutorials) this time.

Only been playing for a few days but it's very enjoyable and unlike any other MMO I've played.

Downloading it now, will give the 14 day trial a go and see how I feel after that

It is a great game but takes up a lot of time to get anything out of. However afer moving from 1 MMO to the next for a while it is the only thing I can stick with.

You can play it pretty casually if you like in high sec just doing missions and stuff at your own pace or if you want fun it does require a big jump to get into 0.0, but once you know what your doing it is also quite casual if you want it to be.

what is the difference between high sec and 0.0?
