i'd do one at a time cause the cut scenes seem to tie in. well thats what i got from completing marine then starting alien

tessalation and advanced shadows are great and i'm hoping more games use the advanced shadows feature. if you haven't already you'll see it later in the maring campaign in full glory when an alien is killing a human awesome moment.

Yeah it seems as if I'm gonna have to drop some AA/AF to get it running smooth - wouldn't have expected to with my card but I guess the drivers are still not optimised as of yet.
 
u should be able to max it with a 5870 if your sig is right u might find ur cpu is resticting the card a little
i've noticed on my G13 gameboard that it's also using 4 cores?

core 1 and 3 are about 30% 2 and 4 about 10%

My sig is right. My cpu is probably costing me a few frames though it's hardly a slouch. Seems the biggest hit is AA which suggests that with very high textures the VRAM is running out of space? Anyway, I've settled for everything on except for 2xAA (1xAA was too big a compromise) and it still dips but is playable.

alien vision is not as clear as marines best screenshots come from the marine campaign i love the quick kill were the alien sticks his tail through there eye ball i'm still trying to screenshot that but fraps keeps missing it by a split second LOL

Anyway my copy arrived from Play today too, wasn't expecting much really and that's what I got.
Fiddled with the CD key for ten minutes.
This is the first game I've come across that didn't let me install it where I wanted.
The DX10 graphics are 'passable'. God it's soo consoley.
The controls suck: no next/prev weapons, controls changing on the fly etc. There's a joypad option! - which sad ***** play these games with a joypad? Jeez.
Admittedly I've only played as a marine for 15 mins (in the club area, under seige from a few aliens...one at a time actually), I'll probably give the game another go later, but you don't need to get that much further into a ****ty game to realise it's just that.

fair enough you don't like the game but don't go telling everyone avoid if not bought already. Not everyone is you thats your opinion but phrase it like it's your opinion maybe something like this

IMOif i'd played it before i bought it then maybe i would have had second thoughts or not bothered
 
P:S take a look at my DX 11 screen shots they are more than passable by any standard maybe get yourself a ATI card i think your a little miffed cause your missing out on the DX11 goodness:cool::D
 
The lighting on the alien is nice is the first screenshot without making it look all plasticy. However I'd rather stick to smooth as silk DX10 gameplay over little extra eyecandy at 23(!!) frames a sec framerate...anyday. Off to play a little more marine..

PS I don't do ATI. :)
 
Well I'm really enjoying it. Lack of dedi's is frustrating since the game would be a whole lot better with them, however for the time being it's still a good way to kill off an evening. :)
 
Nuke This Game From Orbit

Have to admit I'm struggling with this in SP mode, even on medium level. Can't get beyond the first marine mission, stuck in the blocked corridor with what seems like hordes of aliens attacking. The sentry gun packs up after a bit leaving you with 5 or 6 aliens to fight hand to hand - despite the training blurb advising against this (for obvious reasons). A couple of times I've just held out long enough to start running towards the lift but if you stop to administer health, another alien just gets you. (And you can only carry three health packs anyway).

Fared slightly better on the Predator level but still get spammed with aliens, the laser weapon runs out of power after a few blasts and, well it's just not fun TBH.

Being Steam DRM I can't even sell it on to someone else.

I'm usually pretty good at FPS, even managed to finish COD MW2 on medium level. The old Alien Trilogy on PS1 or side scrolling Predator on the Amiga was better than this.

I really will stop laughing in a minute. Tried playing them recently? Saying an old Amiga game is better because you're stuck on AvP and "even managed to finish COD MW2 on medium" isn't really an indication of AvP's quality, is it..

Ok, you got me, I've only got a 275, but I did get into a DX10 game first and it looked good.. but you know I can't tell the bloody difference between 9 and 10.

Was tongue in cheek, old boy.

The fact is though back then developers and programmers seemed to know how to strike the balance as regards difficulty and gameplay. I've been gaming for nearly 20 years including countless FPS titles, most of which I've been able to complete or at the very least almost finish.

Mine isn't the only less than positive feedback in this thread and the title doesn't say "The Official AVP3 - Fanbois Only". Fancy graphics or going "wow" because there's a CGI Alien on the screen doesn't necessarily make it a good game. The same cross section is apparent if you read the reviews on Rainforest - UK & US.

Anyhow I'm going to dive back in on Easy mode, see how I fare. If not, then it's back to Fallout 3 (guess I'm missing my VATS).

Basically...yes. (Obviously need to take my meds before posting).

Anyhow have restarted on "Easy" level, problem is it may be *too* easy, as there seems to be unlimited ammo, at least for the pistol.
