Afternoon all,

My manager has asked me to research online to find out how much someone should get paid doing the job that i do.

He believes that i am underpaid and wants me to research positions online so that he can tell his manager why he thinks we should get a pay-rise.

Does anyone know any sites that show an average wage for working in a certain role in the IT sector?

Thanks.

Private/Public sector?

Unsure of what IT Assistant means but I'm guessing day to day desktop support?? If so possibly 15-20k dependant on your experience etc.

"IT Support Job" is very ambiguous - that term could be used from a mouse changer and printer unjammer to infrastructure support to help desk phone answerer.

In my first job, as a AIW IT guy at a school, I left there earning 12k, my current job I earn 26k.

Do you just reset passwords/swap pc's about/do the initial troubleshooting? If so 15-20k as suggested above.

If you are more into 2nd/3rd line/project stuff which I am then 20-30k depending on experience.

This is such a vague description.

What do you do day to day?

Private Sector

Provide desktop support to multiple offices (London, South Africa, Netherlands)
Administrate and maintain the domain
Administrate Exchange
Build new servers if needed
Travel to offices around the UK (London, Croydon, Southend)
Manage backups of NAS.

Bout 17k-18k, what I am on doing a similar job, although I think it should be more :p

I'd say at least £20k.

24K minimum

I'd say at least £20k.

It really does depend on employer, size of IT function, location etc but for a field support engineer (desktop/2nd line) then 20k is the ball park figure.

Start working '3rd' line and with server infrastructure and you should expect 25k + but again it really does depend on the who, what and where.

For example my role (IT PM) pays anything from 35k (which is a farce) up to ~70-80k in the 'city' - perm obviously, contract rates are considerably more at £250-500 per day.
