i7 930

I don't really see the purpose in comparing the temps... using a higher voltage on the 930, of course the temps are going to be higher... The same way you could take 2 920s that require different voltages to reach 4GHz, which doesn't give anyone the "right", to say oh dear look at that one, it gets hotter than that one... of course it does more electricity is being pushed through it lol. In the same respect 2 930s will require different amounts of electricity to attain the same speed.

All that chart draws a conclusion to is more volts = higher temps, but we all knew that anyway.

Even 2 chips, made exactly the same day, at the same time, at the same place on the same wafer might require different amounts of voltages to achieve a high clock. No chip will be the same it is simply the law of physics :)

My point was to show primarily the extra voltage required. Of course the Temps are a result of extra voltage. However it helps to know what temp increase to expect.

If on air for example it might mean that the clock becomes impractical.

Chart shows difference between a decent 920 & an indifferent 930, just as you see when comparing 920s.

I basically said the same
Yes, your going to have exactly the same thing as we've seen with I7-920 D0, some great ones and some indifferent ones. Are you feeling lucky ?

I have a Gigabyte ex58-ud3r, will I have to update my bios for the 930? I hate doing bios updates just incase I brick my mobo.

I bricked my first motherboard doing it :( totally fried the BIOS chip.

I did a successful Flash of my new Motherboard BIOS though, ASUS EzFlash is actually really good :D

Depends on what bios you have now.

Havent a clue, only bought my mobo about 2 weeks ago from overclockers. I will Have to wait until pay day to get my next set of parts. I still need to get my Ram and decide which damn i7 to get. Will my PC post if the bios dosen't recognise the 930? Apparently the latest bios update supports the 930 as well as the new 980's etc, but t will be no good to me though if I can't get into the bios to flash it.

Should do m8 dont worry as a bios update is simple to do and most likely your board will post without problems.

Don't wish to hijack the thread but does it still void the warranty if your update your BIOS and it fails? Also, I thought the new Gigabyte mobos had dual BIOS chips anyway?

aight cheers, will be buying myself one asap! any chance someone could have a quick look at my 'best motherboard' post realy need some input on weather i should spend the extra £60 on the evga or not and why i should/shouldnt. cheers

What is the performance difference between 4ghz and 4.2ghz in games and video encoding? Is it that big?
Nothing in games, encoding is a different matter, very few games theese days utilise 4 cores, encoding wise, on a 4ghz 17 920, i can take a 700mb avi and convert it to dvd in 5 minutes, my dvd burner takes longer to burn the resulting file to dvd (lg blu ray/hd dvd ,dvd rom/dvdrw).

I do a lot of HD encoding, 1080P stuff, so i got the i7 when it came out, just wondering if going from 3.8 to 4.2 is going to be a massive benefit. My i7 already screams and im happy with it, just wondering if there is a CPU ceiling for stuff like Vegas.

We launched i7 930 this morning as we do not break Intel NDA's. The products are now available including systems and bundles.

From all the reviews i seen so far today it says its not worth the upgrade from i7 920. so its only worth it if you dont have i7 920 in the first place.
