i7 930

Ive never really worried about batch numbers, im on my third intel quad (i7 920 DO currently), my first intel quad was a 1.2750 vid q6600 GO, 3.8ghz on air with a bit of tweaking, 2nd chip was an EO stepping q9550, 1.200 vid, 3.8ghz wih ease (1.216 vcore). My current DO i7 does 4ghz on 1.2750 vcore, i found it easier to clock than my previous q9550.

Sod all batch for starters

Been ther done that.

With A d0 i7 its 4ghz ( with skill) at low vcore

With a 920 C0 its Skill, ***** and vcore

With the Opterons 146's then batch meant everything CABYE= GOLD

OPTY 170's Later batches did well.

Fact is you won't run your 930 24/7 faster than my 920 @ 4ghz...and if you do?....well it will be 200mhz at most.

But the lack of prime shots in the i7 thread means I will be on your ass wanting proof of 24/7 930 clocks...so be warned :D

@ Setter

Still waiting for a prime blend run

Easy, have you tried LinX/IBT yet, regarding batch no's/vid, theyre a lot of nonsense on i7, my EO q9550 with a 1.200 vid ran at 3.8ghz in a p5q deluxe at 1.18, even my current i7 will do 3.6ghz on 1.18, only had to bump voltage when i went for 4ghz, my old 1.2750 vid q6600 done 3.6ghz on 1.4 vcore, lapped it and my TRUE black, 3.8ghz on 1.51 vcore, ran it like that 24/7 for 8 months, you cant kill a q6600, best chip ever.

Give me time mate, im that fed up with this rig at the minute (currently at stock), had a few issues with graphics cards dying lately, an 11 month old gtx 280 died on me, the replacement gtx 275 i got died after 4 hours use, letting the rig run at stock for a few days until i get my next gtx 275, i was worried about my thermaltake toughpower 750w psu, got a mate to test it (he's an electronic engineer), he says its fine, but i bought a corsair hx 850w modular anyway, will help to keep my case a bit neater.

EDIT: Prime95 smallfft/blend is a pretty good indication of stability, i actually prefer prime as i run it for 8 hours minimum, but, ive seen rigs that were prime fft/blend stable for 8 hours + failing 20 passes on LinX on max ram, 20 passes on it takes about 40 mins on an i7, avoid intel burn test on i7, its a bug fest.

Just get an ati Card m8:)

Although NV was my cream...

Just gone sour of late

Gotta wait to see what this etailer will offer me as a replacement mate, i thought about a 5870 and then add a second later for crossfire, ive always used nvidia to date, currently running an asus en 8800gt (non standard cooler), quite a nice wee cool running card, but it's rubbish at 1920x1200, but at least i can watch my blu rays on the pc, card before that was a 7300gt borrowed from my nephew, it was that bad the pci bracket was bent, i was scared to install it ino my p6t dlx mobo.

I am thinking of ditching my D0 i7 for one of these also...

Decisions decisions
Do you already have a D0 i7-920? If so, are you sure it will be worth it?

As mentioned before it's essentially the same chip so it's overclockability will be the same, the only difference is that the clock reached might be easier to achieve with the higher multiplier.

What would you get for your used 920? Maybe around £170/£180? If so, in that case it'll probably cost you about £50 just for the extra multi.

that sounds good to me :D

Hmm.. Think I might hang on for this baby before I order me bits. Is the extra multi really worth it? Does it make it a bit easier to reach higher clocks?

ocuk seem a bit late with these other sites are expecting stock today

That's because they still have a load of 920s in the warehouse that they need to get rid of ;) It's up on a load of sites now :)

EDIT: Don't expect a lot of sites, including OCUK to have it up until Monday anyway, although technically it comes out today, it isn't a working day, so it will most likely be updated and on sale tomorrow :).

Temps are a few degrees higher at 4.2 and needs more voltage to get there than the 920, not looking good is it. Think i will stick to the 920 it seems to be a better chip going by those results.

Yes, your going to have exactly the same thing as we've seen with I7-920 D0, some great ones and some indifferent ones. Are you feeling lucky ?

It's early days to get an overall idea on average performance, but I'd not get carried away :)
