PSN goes all Millennium Bug on us

Doesn't really suprise me if ppls trophies/save games have all been wiped and that the online service has crashed. How typical of Sony really, what a useless pathetic online service they offer.

The only game I use to play sometimes online was sf4 which they destroyed with a patch and never bothered fixing. My PS3 has been collecting dust ever since then. Sony are a proper useless bunch of ******s if you ask me.

Sorry to be pedantic, but it was Capcom that broke SF4, not Sony.

It was the online aspect that was broken wasn't it? Wasn't the same update released on the xbox? I don't recall any problems there, or any problems of ppl losing thousands of GPs on the 360.

Just goes to show how much a cobbled together mess PSN really is. :D

It's nothing to do with PSN. It's a firmware/software issue on the PS3 itself, an issue which has effected many other products over the years, including Microsoft ones.

Nice kneejerk reaction there, maybe you should read up properly?
Slim units are all working fine on the PSN, it's **** all to do with the PSN, it's the internal clock of the PS3 itself that's to blame.
Don't let that stop you ripping into the PS3 though, it's fun watching people have ill-informed rants based soley on heresay and assumption.

It's not a kneejerk reaction mate, Sonys online service is pretty pathetic. You geeks and fanboys continue fighting with each other as I pass through lol, I don't own an xbox or anything, I'm just stating facts from my experiences of owning a PS3.

I haven't even switched mine to see if its affected, doesn't really change anything though does it. Something as simple as the date affecting thousands, possibly millions(?) of consoles and not allowing them to connect to the internet. Well that's a great job there

I kind of meant the whole affair rather than just the network connectivity. Trophies are part of PSN, you can't say they aren't a cobbled together mess. :D But I love them dearly.

Technically, they can connect to the internet, just not Sony servers.

And you're entitled to your opinion, but not to spout it as fact.

No idea how this has happened, but hope it fixes itself tonight as Sony don't seem to have a clue what the problem is.

The main worry is that it might corrupt data on the harddrive which may stop the servers syncing. Trophies can still be recovered but what about other data?? I think this is what sony are worried about regards telling people not to switch your ps3's on.

I have no idea if it's been posted yet, I can't be bothered to go through the whole thread :p but to fix the issue all you have to do is unplug the CMOS battery on the PS3, this voids your warranty but most of the systems affected are way out of it anyway.

lol the 360 guys are going to have a field day with this

my mate has already started

I moved over to the PC version instead, so I'm not really fussed. I might try sign on in a bit to see if mines affected, probably will be with it being the old 60gb version. :p

erm, my mate who is a manager in blockbuster just msn'd me and he said they have been sent a urgent message to stop selling ps3's..... wtf

Strange how it didn't affect the online play for xbox owners though? Maybe it was just pure coincidence and had nothing to do with Sonys online service.

If i were to code a program and it didn't work, i don't blame microsoft for windows not being very good. It would be my fault for being a rubbish coder!

There are numerous other games which have perfectly good online aspects on the ps3, and some that don't. The ones that don't are because of bad design by the games developer not sony!

Yes sony have fouled up pretty big time with this bug, but there's no point blaming them for other companies errors...

lols, it took a few pages but i knew someone would eventually start spouting crap directed at Sony :D

1 error, that is quite serious and now "OMFG CRUCIFY SONY, PSN IS RUBBISH". Get some perspective

I went Blockbuster's today to preorder BC2 and I noted that one customer wanted to buy a PS3 but the person at the till said he couldn't, despite having a few boxes right behind him... never noticed the significance of it until now!

If the shops are having to refuse to sell their PS3s then you know this is getting deadly serious!
