I can tell you you've got it the wrong way around. What you see in the end is not what it really is. There are clues spread all over the movie if you look at the right places - everyone seems to have 'thought' of the twist before it happened yada yada yada, but there is more to the movie than what you think.

Don't want to discuss it more for those that have not seen it, but if you google it you will find some hints and tips about it. There is much more to the real ending than what it shows.


Note: Just remembered a hint that I can give without giving out anything for those that haven't watched it. If you thought you predicted how it would end, and you think the ending shown is what really happened, then you need to rethink what the lady that was interviewed wrote in his notebook. Why would she write that?

Well I've just Googled and I can't find anything that contradicts what I think. There are people who won't want to accept the end of the movie as it is because that is too easy, but if you read the book and watch the movie again you'll see that everything does point to how it ends. If you think the end isn't really real, then there are far far far too many mistakes/silly bits throughout the film to make sense. I can't really answer your Note: without spoiling it for some :).
 
Loved this tonight, went over the womans head but i thought it was superb, loved the twist and the fact he made his own decision at the end sublte as it was letting you know, if you've seen it you will know what i mean.

superb though and highly recommended

I suppose that is the beauty of the film (and that is where the director is to be credited). It is made in such a way that you can argue both sides and there are enough clues to sway either way depending on what weight you apply to them.

I thought the movie was great - thought the soundtrack was a bit over the top at points.

One point I didn't get was:

When he was interviewing the woman and she drank from the glass of water, there was no glass?!!
 
I really liked it, thought it was directed really well. The kind of film that will age well. I love the glimpse of the lighthouse at the end:D
 
Great film, as people have said, the whole thing could be interpreted in different ways.

However, if this was the case, why the question at the end to his partner. Had he been convinced so well he believed it all, or was he really there for longer than you think?

When he takes off his gun at the start he does it fine but 'Chuck' can't get it right, possibly because he's not a real FBI agent and is a psychiatrist?

Also at the start the guards are very edgey and say that everybody is, is this because they've basically let a pscho loose as part of an experiment or is it because a missing woman is loose?

I think that he was crazy from clues like these and even when he walked into the institution one of the patients waved at him, and the old woman shushed him (like she thought it was a game or something). When he talks to the man in the cell he asks who did that to his face, and he replies 'you did'. Things like this make me think that it's actually very well directed and he was a patient for years. Also at the end he doesn't look back when Dr Sheehan shouts 'Teddy' at him, possibly because he knows he isn't Teddy.
 
Went to see this tonight, figured out most things after the first scene with his wife but not sure I can say why in case I spoil it for anyone.

It was good, but I have a tendancy to work out these types of movies very quickly so I kinda get a little bored waiting for the plot to reveal to see if I'm right.
 
Saw this tonight, thought it was very good.

It was predictable from early on in the film, but the thing I liked the most about the film, is that it kept you guessing and you (I) wasn't quite sure which way it was going to turn out.

An excellent movie. The film challenges our lack of judgments and shows how weakly we can be played by some surface evidence, first we are sure that HE is not insane and doctors are evil(with no definite evidence) then a twist and some play like imageries and talks changes our mind, then at the end people are left in doubt. I know You might say most people believe that Teddy was insane, But i believe otherwise and maybe thats what the film wants to say. that how majority of us can be brainwashed with evidences that could be wrong in the setting where everything is ambiguous and there is no clear line.

I believe that this movie gives us a look into the mind of what it would be like for a mental patient as even though we are told at the end he is indeed mental there is still a chance he is not. As if he is mental you disregard 90% of the movie or if you believe he is not mental you disregard the part where they explain it to him. Just how a mental person would look at it disregarding parts of life to suit with there view.

but wasn't his illness also down to a lot of the stuff he saw at those POW camps? and was mostly cause from Post-traumatic Stress Disorder?

Could have been the *aspirin* they gave him to either hallucinate, or was it a drug to help him come around to the truth?

what convinced me the doctors were telling the truth was how the interviews were conducted with the patients particularly the fellah, it was more of an attack on the patient for his crimes and being insane that an interview regarding the missing patient, the stranger thing was the nurses and other staff letting it proceed to the point of shear distress for the patient, clearly to me they were letting him play out his roles hoping that it would benefit him other wise id have expected someone to have stepped in much much earlier and advised him to stop.
 
I saw it the other day, I didn't predict the ending, and I'm pretty good at things like that, lol. It was a good film IMO regardless, would recommend it to people, in fact I have.
