@ memyselfandi

Thats good to hear if thats the case, id much prefer some proper content rather than say your usual hot spring episode (well they already did that anyway i guess).

Near the end of first season of Higurashi, you will get an idea of what is going on, but it's on the second season that it becomes more interesting as the bigger picture gets revealed.

I've got the BR boxset for this .... thought that it was a really good story with good animation.

Yeah the level of detail in the animation is incredible, it's like a Hayao Miyazaki film in terms detail, but it's standard series length!

According to wiki each episode cost around $300,000 to make

Just finished A__a the Origination, along with the Arietta OVA. My thoughts, in as much of a spoilerless fashion as possible are as follows ...

I thought Arietta was a good typical A__a episode. Nice and gentle and looked good.

The series itself .... well for a start it looks really, really good and is in 16:9 unlike the earlier series. The background environment is enchanting (in particular episode 11 which seemed to have even better than usual backgrounds). The OP, ED music are nice (I like the ED in particular) and the insert songs are good.

The episodes themselves; I found the first five episodes fairly melancholic (in a good way) .... they were good, but downbeat and the mood with fairly down at times. This is not meant as a criticism of these episodes as they are very good and the melancholic things are necessary set ups for later on. Episodes 5.5 through 8 were typical A__a fair and were not really outstanding but things peaked then in episode 9 which was a absolute corker. Episode 10 was typical but from then on we were talking great episodes spiralling up on an emotional roller-coaster to the end of the series. The last few episodes were quite hard to watch, emotionally, at times but are excellent .... you know what is going to happen but how it happens and how the characters are affected just makes it great. Oh and you can't stop at the end of episode 12 and think you'll come back to episode 13 ... you'll want to continue straight on into it.

The only trick they missed was that one event was mentioned, at the start of episode 13, that was going to be happening but it is not covered later on in the episode .... it would be possible to OVA it separately though if they wanted to in the future ...

Overall it was a great series and easily finds itself in my top ten.

Damn you memyselfandi I'm still waiting for my A__a to arrive :)

I'm currently watching XXXholic which is a slightly different style/feel to the other Clamp series i've seen (more angular?/thinner/taller main characters?) although I already recognise a few from other Clamp series :)

I finished the Alien Nine manga the other day, which was oddly brutal in places, so i'm set to watch the DVD after XXXholic :)

Talking of Clamp, my Chobits omnibus 1 arrived, which is a lot bigger than I was expecting (it's about twice as big as the Gunsmith cats ones).

I've also just placed an order for dispatch in June for
Clannad DVD Complete Collection (Hyb)
Genshiken 2 DVD Premium Box (Hyb) + T
Genshiken Economy DVD Set (Hyb)
Stellvia Complete Tin Set (Hyb)
Tsubasa, RESERVoir CHRoNiCLE DVD Collection

Clannad because, well I loved the series but would like to see how the dub turned out (and possibly relax a bit more watching it).
Genshiken because it was relatively cheap and looks good :p
Stellvia because it's cheap and i've been umming and arring about it for ages.
Finally Tsubasa because I'm fed up of waiting for the UK release of the second series (it's been over a year now, and the last disk of the first series was months late).
Although that does mean i'm going to end up with something like 3 copies of the first 4 or 5 disks of the first series.

i just got the soul eater ost. love the manga loved the anime (until it decided to be abit poo at the end)
love this piece
just wish they could get rid of the singer most of the time.
also worked out a good tab for suna no hoshi (sandy planet from trigun!(
)) on guitar which i am loving

bwahahaha .... lol ... it'll be well worth the wait ;)

I know what you mean about the characters in XXXholic, they do have some form of strange stretched-ness about them ... very odd ...

I was actually looking at the Chobits omnibus yesterday in town and you are right it is really thick. I assume, from it's size, that it's four volumes (half the series) ? I don't think I'll bother double dipping on it as I don't like overly thick paperbacks as they are prone to falling apart in my experience and I already have the Chobits manga as singles (most of which I got from Rainforest Marketplace at <£2 per volume :))

Nice selection. Haven't decided on whether to get the dubbed Clannad or not yet, it'll depend on what else comes out that I want at the time. I have that Genshiken series 1 set and the "artbox" makes the Funimation thinpak artboxes look sturdy ... one of my favourite series though ... but what about Kujibiki Unbalance? ... not for the series itself but for the Genshiken OVA episodes which ties the two Genshiken series together?

Stellvia ... is in my urm, erm, etc, list as well and I need to try and pick it up at some point, (edit: You know what ... *** it, ordered). With Tsubasa, I have the UK release in the artbox but I haven't got around to watching past disk one yet .... if I like it then I'll probably pick up the US BR collection release eventually.

I see that the second half of the new cheap Eureka Seven boxsets has started shipping out so hopefully that'll come this week.

Since A__a I have been watching the following ...

Venus Versus Virus .... which was ok apart from the ending. The series had a reasonable plot and the animation was ok but it really needed at least another half episode to actually wrap up the story properly.

Bubblegum Crisis .... after several people here mentioned liking it here the other day I went mining in the depth of the back log and came across this, (the AnimeEigo Remastered Boxset edition ... it have more extras than there are episodes!). Now I like my anime to look good which can be a bit of a problem with the older series as the art style is not really to me taste .... but I thought that this was really, really good. Lots of action and dodgy late eighties music :)

Also managed the last episode of Sora no Woto (or whatever) which was very good and a nice finish to the end of the broadcast run, (although bring on the OVA episodes).

Additionally I have been watching Hidimari Sketch x365 which is good although it can take a bit of concentration due to the way the time line between episodes jumps around all over the place. I'll probably finish it tomorrow as I only have ~5 episodes (including the two OVA episodes) left. People have been complaining in some quarters that the episodes are overly compressed on the DVDs but I can't say I've noticed any issues ...

@Touchstone; personally I don't do any drawing, I'd love to be able to but unfortunately I have a negative amount of artistic talent :(

Re E7 hopefully my Amazon Prime* will pay for itself and i'll get it Monday or Tuesday :)

Kujibiki Unbalance is already on order, I ordered it and Le Chevelair D'eon for ~$20ish each plus delivery, because I saw it came with the OVA's for Genshiken, hopefully the series itself will be good :).

BGC is still one of my favourites after all these years, I'm hopeful that it may even get a Blu ray release at some point as it was a fairly high budget OVA series at the time, so with a little luck there is still a good film copy somewhere :)
With regards to the extras, aye, even the older DVD version has some really quite good extras on it (the Hurricane Live music videos are quite good, iirc for at least one of them they animated a whole new bit for the song).
I'm sorely tempted to order a copy of the remastered version some time, but I keep putting it off in the hope of a better version.

Touchstone, I would love to be able to draw, but have zero talent for it, I can barely make a recognisable cat, dog, or chicken (even stick figures give me trouble:p)

*I caved when my brother pointed out he would also benefit from it, and that i'd got about 8 outstanding orders which would more or less break even :p

Yeah if you order a reasonable amount then Amazon Prime pays for itself pretty quickly, (I think the first year I got it it paid for itself within the month ) ... you can also play the sharing with people within the same household slightly and share it with relatives at another address (at least its worked for me).

Kujibiki Unbalance .... well you do really need the Genshiken OVAs otherwise the end of Genshiken season 1 to the start of season 2 don't really match up and it's then quite confusing (unless you've read the manga). KU itself is not a brilliant series and would have been a lot better if they had used the plot from the episodes they included as OVAs along with Genshiken season 1 (and kept the Under17 theme music too!).

oh yeah balls. sorry about that. i tend to miss stuff if its not got neon lights on it :D
would i be able to/ would people want an artists thread somewhere?
otherwise i might put some of my stuff up on that artists corner. sick and tired of animation at the moment. wanna do some art to get my mind off it

Haha, just watched Season 1 of Rosario+Vampire. Pretty damned funny, and a perfect foil to some of the series I have seen recently :D

Plus...extra kudos for vampires not being wussy, twinkly things unlike a certain portrayal recently!

Shame the Rosario+Vampire Anime adaption pales in comparison to the original Manga though. It just became another ecchi show and with annoying reused transformation scenes. But hey, it's got Nana Mizuki voicing the main character and the second season's opening sequence is actually really nice. :D

Havent seen the second season yet, although they're quite short so will no doubt watch it soon. Just a bit of lighthearted fun which makes a nice change, because given how whimsicle and silly some of it, its kinda impossible to take too seriously. No doubt the original manga is much longer which usually helps the story develop better :)

I read the first 7 or 8 volumes of the Rosario+Vampire manga and quite enjoyed it but could never get into the anime for some reason ...

Finished Hidimari Sketch x365 this evening ... pretty good series and quite long for a single cour release with 14 episodes + 2 OVA episodes in the set. The series is quite hard to watch with it's jumping around through the time line of the characters ... I'm not sure why they do that as I don't remember it being done that way in the manga?!?!

Next up ... not sure yet; I'm on a course this week so I'm not sure what time I'll be getting home each evening so what time I'll have to watch stuff :(
