2012 Monument chosen

I think it's going to look impressive once you are close to it. Not bad at all, reminds me of some sort of roller coaster somehow :)

Its also quite big.

Absolute waste of cash. We are in a recession and instead of using the money to help get out of it, we waste millions on a piece of **** tower lol

It's projected to cost just under £20m (if it comes in on budget) with over 3/4 of that coming from the Arcelor-Mittal steel company and a further £3m from the London Development Agency. Most of the steel will be provided by the Arcelor-Mittal steel company so at worst it's a negligible amount that "we" will be paying.

Whether the thing is worth building at all is another question but it's not going to be costing the UK taxpayer much if anything.

I believe this has only happened at one olympics

It's rather difficult to gauge how much an Olympics costs and how much it recoups I would have thought as while you can look at the obvious headline figures of materials bought to build stadia, increase infrastructure capacity etc versus the sales from tickets, merchandising etc you've also got the more unquantifiable value to businesses in and around the area or even much wider afield - what time period do you count for the Olympics paying back? Is it just the first couple of years or is it five years or some other measure entirely?

Pile of crap?

I think they should do something that relates to renewable energy, perhaps some kind of rotating structure powered purely by the sun. The above concept looks like some scaffolding with a small room at the top...

Looks rubbish

"I wanted the sensation of unstability" - Not very inspiring either :(

Hope it is an April fool.
