The *Official* Eve Online Thread

No no, he didnt disconnect. He warped to a safespot, cloaked, then logged off (whilst the system was full of enemies), without thinking that his ship is still scannable for a minute if he still had agro (which he did). Not that it takes long to scan down a titan anyway.

So while he was offline, his buddy was saying in fleet that he was safe and all was well.... until we saw him on the directional scanner. If he just stayed online and cloaked up he would've been fine.

He must have bought that toon though, nobody experienced enough to fly a titan could've been that stupid. I was told today the avatar got blown to pieces in about 30 seconds. 8 supercarriers, 1 titan, 4 dreads, 20 battleships and a whole bunch of other ships came in and did the job pretty fast. Seeing as the titan was technically unpiloted it wouldn't have been hard to kill.

80billion isk. ouch lol

cripes, the dimwit deserves it then. Darwinian selection at its best.

Just wondering, what does EVE online do to auto miners? i was speaking to a guy then he went offline ( i couldnt speak to him ) but his ship kept mining away, every so offen it would warp away then come back and mine more...

People using some kinda external auto targetting progam too :( was caught by a gatecamp last night and they started targetting insanely fast - far quicker than any module in the game does it and far quicker than any person could react and select a target.

No they dont.... They use two sensor booster II's with scan resolution scripts... It can lock anything in under 1 second... And they sit there looking at their overview (which is set up not to show anything but non-friendly ships) with the ctrl key pressed and click on you the second you come through....

Don't blame poor piloting on hax0rs....

I'm not talking about the locking time, I'm talking about the time it took to start locking after the warp cloak went down - literally 1 game frame (~30ms + network latency) between 1 event and the other - which just isn't possible.

I was sitting there with mouse over cloak in the vain hope of getting it up before they started targetting and they had started locking in less than a third of the time it took me to react and click that button - and I'm a hardcore FPS player my react + left mouse is pretty fast.

Yes they were deffinatly sensor boosting - had me target locked in around a second but thats a different story.

As for poor piloting, it was more unforunate piloting, my recon said they'd jumped away so I took the chance only to jump through the gate at the moment they decided to warp back with re-enforcements - having failed to kill me the first time - I tanked 2x cane, 1x broadsword. But couldn't tank that + 1x drake, 1x apocalypse heh (crawled the 15km back to the gate only to pop with 5 seconds left to jump (based on the distance and speed when I died) :S).

what were you in?

Prob lag, you most likely appeared to them to be targettable maybe before it appeared that you should have been, I;ve had similar things, just the annoyance of such a large server.

And if you try and report a loss due to lag you get told "we don't have lag!"

Lost a domi and raven in a lvl 5 due to lag

I lost my faction Damnation as well in similar circumstance :p it;s why I don't do big battles anymore.

Going back to cov-ops/recon when I play again in roams catching stragglers etc.

same , big battles are a total waste of time and ships :D

Indeed when I used to get asked to come along to big capital fleet engagements I was almost tempted to simply eject, and right click trash my ship. Would have saved time for me to do something more constructive :p

@ Rroff:

you are visible to others as soon as you move, press a key or do anything, even if your client shows you as still 'cloaked' or uncloaking. There's also a known client side lag element which adds to this effect and can easily mean that hostiles can see you quickly enough to 'insta' lock you.

@ VaderDSL

Capital battles are what I play eve for nowadays - currently 244 kills in my revelation and climbing. nothing is quite as good as being in warp and your alliance leader says over coms 'to those who are about to die, I salute you' (thats Bobby Atlas for you :P), then landing on a grid full of hostile caps and starting to light them up...(then again, 4 hours of shooting poses isnt so exciting.....)

Didn't move press a key or anything, its possible it was lag, but it was the same both times I went through - they started locking me extremely quickly - far far quicker than any one else has in the time I've been playing and I've run into a fair few gatecamps and have a good feel for the average ctrl click targetting response.

I know people in my corp who use 3 sensor boosters & scan resolution scripts & rigs.
