COuld someone provide me with some advice on this photo please:

f/8, 1/80s on tripod, 18mm on Nikon D40 18-55 kit lens. Why does it look - frankly - quite poo in terms of image quality even after I've sharpened it and corrected the perspective? The front of the cathedral looks ok, but the side is just a mess to me. Could it be camera limitation or in processing?

I then tried aiming for a subtle HDR effort (my first) using Photomatix using 7 photos (-1, -2/3, -1/3, 1, 1/3, 2/3, 1) and that's the result. ANy opinions? Edit - barely HDR'ed in fact on 2nd thought!

Thanks mate! Took ages to clean it up - it's an HDR from just one RAW and the amount of noise and sensor dust that showed up was unreal! I've found that making an HDR out of just one shot really does only work with ISO 100 or 200 photos - anything higher is just too noisey, even when ETTR and dropping down the exposure on a 5dII.

Thanks, I don't have a particular technique. I try to think what would suit the photo and then try and get as close to it as possible, doesn't always work though.

Both are slightly desaturated and then have split toning with a golden brown on the highlights with a few other basic tweaks.

Recent one from me.

Need to get the sensor cleaned - dust spots everywhere!!! Spent ages cleaning the worst ones away a few left, decided they enhanced the 'grain'.

Lovely colours there, perhaps just a slight increase in the DoF would have got its antennas in focus too........bug season means insane macro shots from Famas! :eek:

Went campiing in Norfolk for Easter.
Went to Norwich Catherdal which was quite a stunning structure.
