***The Official Forza Motorsport 3 Thread***

The Holden HSV W427 is a limited run of highly tuned specials, listed at $150000 (Aussie Dollars), that's about £90K!!!

The Holden doesnt feel that much over the E63 amg though when driving it, although it did put a faster time in my tests i conducted this afternoon :p

got the new pack, quite cool so far

Inisignia DEFO needs some handling tuning, turns corners like an oil tanker, golf R is pretty rapid and handles well + HSV sounds EPIC!!!! :D

question:the dlc released for forza do they contain free cars aswell??

also if peps want to add me for races etc feel free! mrhandley

You get a free "taster" car with every DLC, the latest is the Mini Coupe Concept. The idea is you download the free one and it also downloads the rest of the cars so they are visible in multiplayer instead of black VW Bora's. Then again seeing a Pagani Zonda R as a VW Bora because I had yet to download the free car was quite epic.

I was a bit bored this afternoon so decided I would test all the new cars in the Road and Track DLC. To test them I did one out lap on Silverstone GP and recorded the time it took for the cars to get around, without using rewind etc. I also took some notes on how the car behaved on the lap.

Mini Coupe Concept – D309
The first thing I noticed about the mini was the looks which made me go straight inside the car so I wasn’t distracted :p But after that the power delivery seemed ok, however the FWD with the engine seemed to cause quite a bit of under steer. Didn’t feel that great driving it on the game. Got around the track in 2.27.6, the slowest car of the pack that I tested

Mazda MX5 Superlight – E250
First thing that I noticed was the power, there was hardly any and it needs more! The handling however seemed very good, which is probably why it was quicker than the Mini Coupe Concept despite having much less power. Got around the track in 2.27.2

Seat Leon Cupra R (2010) – D347
Good handling for a FWD car, nice acceleration, and brakes ok. Not much really wrong with it but I think it would be quicker being AWD or RWD. Got around the track in 2.22.9

Ford Taurus SHO – D328
The Taurus was an ok car for the PI it has, handling is a bit iffy as it seems a bit barge like, however the power delivery makes up for it by launching the car quite well. Got around the track in 2.22.8

Renault Megane RS 250 – D334
Despite being a lower PI than the Cupra R the Megane felt much more planted and seemed to accelerated and stop quicker. In the corners it felt like there was a little less under steer than the Cupra R, although there wasn’t much in the Cupra R anyway. Got around the track in 2.22.5

Vauxhall Insignia VXR – D349
Good car this, feels a bit more barge like than the Leon and the Megane, however due to the AWD in the car it is much quicker off the line and can get the power down quicker. Seemed to suffer a bit from under steer. Got around the track in 2.18.8

Volkswagen Golf R – D347
The first thing that I noticed with this car coming from the Cupra R before it was the acceleration off the line. The AWD helps a lot here as the car goes off the line straight away, whereas the Cupra R suffered from wheel spin when pulling off the line. Got a bit of over steer around some of the quicker corners but feels really good to drive. Got around the track in 2.18.3

Mercedes E63 AMG – B464

This felt very quick coming from the D class cars, but there was something about the gear change which didn’t quite seem right and I can’t quite tell what it is. Apart from that it seemed to handle ok, but had a bit of under steer and over steer going through the corners. Got around the track in 2.15.5

Holden HSV w427 – B469
Quick car, accelerated very well off the line, had a bit of over steer going through the corners but i expected that this would be the case with the car anyway. Apart from that it seemed good, maybe losing a bit of weight would help the handling and stop some of the over steer. Got around the track in 2.13.9

Bentley Continental Supersports – B482
The AWD system in the car launched it better off the line than the E63 and the HSV, and the car seemed to corner a bit better too. Felt like a proper sports car compared to the E63 and HSV as well due to being able to corner quicker and also seemed to accelerate quicker. Got around the track in 2.09.1

Overall the car that impressed me the most was the Golf R. Seemed very quick for the class it is in and could possibly take a bit more power than it has.

what do people have as settings , i had everything off apart from ABS and was on hard....but i think its too much, i literally have to soup up my car to max and even then often come 4th/3rd if lucky the breaking is horrid and all the other cars seem to have this magic turbo button.

is it worth just sticking on normal and actually playing through the game? or can i change something to on to help handling better?

any tips?

i do want a realistic experience but then i dont want to be bogged down so much that playing is a choore...ie. it would be nice to be at the front of the pack more then less.

Well it's the opposite for me which has cut my playing time down loads. :(
I have all aids off 'cept ABS & my brakes are down to 80ish%.
Racing through the single player I am now at Hard & leave the 2nd place Dude behind, This means I have to race through single player Alone which is ****. :(

****** me off so much I am now playing through a copy of Dirt 2 that I got for 20 quids, Full in your face Arcade style racing to take my mind of the Grind of F3. :(

My tips to you would be Go Slower for Better lap times & stop rushing into bends.
Slow in fast out is Key to a Fast lap.

What cars are you using, iamtheone? I find RWD cars near impossible to handle, particularly in the higher classes. FWD is pretty easy, and AWD is absolutely brilliant. I love the Audi R8 and I've got a brilliant Nissan... Skyline (?) as well.

I'm on the brink of starting the R2 season, but am put off by pretty much having to use a RWD car to maintain pace, so I'm taking some time out to grind through some of the lower tier events in the vain hope of one day getting the 80 points for getting gold on all the events and to get some cash to buy the elusive Maclaren F1...

Anyway, the point being F class is boring as hell to drive (that Yaris event nearly killed me) so I took off a bunch of the assists to liven things up and to get to grips with harder driving in less powerful cars. I'd previously cut it down to just ABS and a full racing line and medium AI, but now I've turned off ABS too and gone for just the braking line to see how things feel. It's harder, but I quite like it as it means I have to focus more and be much more involved, and actually think about the corners in terms of where the racing line is, rather than just blindly following the green arrows. I still find it useful to have the braking line, as I don't seem to have a clue about how soon to brake in order to take a corner.

In terms of assists... you can easily make do without automatic braking unless you're a total noob. Traction control can go, but you might want to bring it back if you get to the higher class RWD cars which I find swing about something chronic. Stability management never did much for me, so you can probably get away without it. ABS is very, very useful, but even with it on I found it helps to pump the brakes, which is pretty much what you have to do with it off anyway, so you might manage without. I'm not sure how I'd fare in higher classes though. The racing line is up to you and how well you can judge these things. I've been playing for about a month now, with no prior racing game experience, and I'm getting to grips with the concept of racing lines, and learning the tracks really helps. Driver AI I have set to medium and it presents a fair challenge for me at present. I've not tried it on hard yet. Gear shifting I have set to auto, but I might make the switch to manual or even manual with clutch once I get a wheel and can devolve brakes and acceleration to my feet and leave my hands to think about the gears. Damage I have set to cosmetic, as at this stage it's too much to worry about dinging the car or smashing up my undercarriage on gradient changes or even - on New York in particular - rolling the car. It's a lot less stressful when you can roll the car and just pick up where you left off

As malc says, it's absolutely key that you get the hang of corners. Brake well in advance on the outside of the bend, turn, drive across the apex and then straighten up on to the opposite outside and accelerate out, then think about preparing for the next corner and repeat the whole thing. The key is to think about driving in a straight line as much as possible, as that's when braking and acceleration are at their best, so you want to keep your time spent turning as low as possible, which means cutting the speed for all but the most gentle of corners, and waiting to accelerate until you're straightening up again. Braking and accelerating while cornering will lead to spinning out once you get to higher classes, and can even happen on the lower classes - I rolled a Yaris yesterday for goodness' sake.

Mr Latte posted this over in the GT5 thread but I thought it would be better in here.

http://classygamer.blogspot.com/2010/02/forza-motorsport-3-what-went-wrong.html

I think it is utter garbage and is basically saying that the game is a broken and doesn't deserve the reviews it got.

I know the game has faults, I've had many rants on the official forum, but imo they are very minor and the overall package that they delivered makes it the best driving game out there today.

I couldn't care less about the leaderboard thing to be honest, never pay attention to them lol. I also can't really think of a game that is out at the minute that compares to forza aswell, so i can't really comment on how lacking it is compared to other games :p

i think i just need to stick it on normal and just get the hang of it a bit more, i do have trouble controlling some of the cars but i think thats normal for a racing game.
think iv perhaps jumped to hard a little too early.

i would say my racing lines are ok, not great but good enough, it just seems on hard the ai have super breaking and speed and leave me in the dust.

as for that link i-bert posted with the neg reviews, he just sounds like your typical hater of everything tbh, if he things forza is flawed he must thing gt is a waste of disk space.
