Southern Iceland - Eyjafjallajokull, an Icelandic volcano has been spouting lava since Sunday but scientist are more concerned about the damage Eyjafjallajokull's neighbor volcano Katla may do if lava from Eyjafjallajokull melts Katla's top thus causing Katla to erupt.
According to one of the National Weather Service's Alaska Region scientist, Gary Hufford:
"When Katla went off in the 1700s, the USA suffered a very cold winter... To the point, the Mississippi River froze just north of New Orleans and the East Coast, especially New England, had an extremely cold winter... Depending on a new eruption, Katla could cause some serious weather changes."
Katla is expected to erupt soon since research has shown all previous Eyjafjallajokulle eruptions have been followed by Katla eruptions as well.
YIKES!!! Scientist think the world could be plunged into an extended deep freeze, a Global Cooling!!!
Uh, terrible! From Global Warming to Global Cooling, Mother Earth has been dishing us humans a lot of extreme weather and extreme events to deal with lately: multiple earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, terrible heat, freezing temperatures... and now a potentially massive volcanic eruption. Truly frightening times. What's in store for the rest of the year?
