First Car..

Janesy B, you never fail...

MY car is Registered in my mums name it was bought by cash, it's my mums car... i am on the insurance to drive it.

At which point is this not being covered properly?

YES, the car is mine, YES, it was my cash, YES, i pay the insurance...
YES, my best mate is an underwriter who tells me i am 100% legal but 100% hated by insurers.

Who drives the car more?

To be honest, how often do you need to drive after 11pm anyway? I very, very rarely do - the only times I have been is to go for a hoon...which I guess is the point!

How about, all the time ? When you're that young you mostly drive around at night.

Yeah, driving around with an insurance document not worth the paper it's written on or being covered properly.

What if you make your parents use your car for shopping/ work daily ? It's very simple ''mum/dad, can you use my car for short trips so I don't have to pay so much insurance?'' ''sure son'', if insurance was such a rip-off for me as in the UK ( don't give me that young drivers crash that often and cause high policy prices BS, for example Admiral group makes a profit HALF their revenue in size, they can get away with charging silly prices, Price fixing ahoy...), I'd do it too...

Who uses the car more... Who needs to know?
But, for argument sake i would use it more due to the long trips out.
In terms of frequent use, my dad would more than likely use it more as i have a Company car.

The insurers need to know

If you use it more and your mum is the main driver, your policy is invalid, simple as

Will take a look at a 306 , Cheers :)
As with the mondeo, well I dont really care what my mates say.

.

I got my mondeo at 18 - When I got it I always expected my mates to mock me but unbelievably I didn't get a single mocking comment from any one at all in my sixth form.

Most people thought it was really nice - basically don't think your mates will automatically mock because its a mondeo - many will recognise its far better than a crappy corsa.

Honestly, if you cant figure that out there's not much hope for you... it's not that difficult

Yes it is, how are they willing to prove a car is being used more by the son than by the parent, if both drive it daily ? Have they planted a gps tracker and camera in the car ? If it wasn't that difficult, people wouldn't get away with it that easily as they do.

The insurers want to know who's driving car so they can calculate the risk accurately. Does that not make sense? You don't get something for nothing, they don't shave £1000 off the policy because they are feeling nice, they are slashing the cost as they are misled to believe you are just a named driver when in fact you're driving around in it most of the time.

You are also slyly suggesting the OP does this as it is a 'no brainer'. I apologise for making assumptions ;)

Insurance companies will go to disturbing lengths to avoid paying out.

You deserve high premiums, whatever you are paying, you should be paying double that.

Haha, luckily people like you have no influence what happens here.

Think what you want, there I think is no way the prices of insurance are normal in the UK, there is something fishy about a company in a supposedly competitive area having a revenue of 500 million and an operating profit of 200 million. Lack of competition or price fixing... Something fishy is going on, if they are making such huge profits, why haven't prices been brought down due to competition ?

Well, lets say you use the car for a commute for a permament full time job. You have a crash on the way to work - it's pretty obvious you're the main driver

Even if your parents would drive it to an evening job further away or a night shift every day ?

Also, is ''pretty obvious'' enough ? What is there against the parents saying they are using it to drive from say Manchester to Newcastle upon tyre every weekend, while the ''full time job'''of the kid is only 5 miles away ?
For example one of my mates here could say that, his parents drive to their caravan in ''Renesse'' ( 80 km away) every weekend and drive back, while he would use it daily to get to his work 4 km away... They still drive it more but he would use it daily to get to work... ( just an example, he doesn't drive, but his parents only really use the car in the weekend for 1 long trip)

They could phone your employer and ask how you come into work? I wouldn't put dirty tactics like that beyond insurers.

They conveniently don't know ? In fact, I doubt my employer knows I'm using the car at all, when I started worth I didn't have a license so in their system I still don't even have a driver's license... And I don't always go there in the same way, it's moped or cycle to work on nice weather/days, and car when people ask me if they can ride along or bad weather, I ride with someone else mostly on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and in rare cases I take the bus when I don't have enough time to go home between Uni and work.

My point is, my employer doesn't know and can't really make a realistic statement how I get to work, they don't know themselves, it's completely random depending an various conditions like weather, money ( when I'm low on cash I'll be more tempted to leave the car at home, while when I'm high on it temporarily I'll use the car more often than usual) and the people working on specific days.

Depends what type of driving you'll likely be doing, but an old mini might be a good choice. something like a 1000cc. Might be difficult finding a good one that isn't modified, but i imagine the 1000cc one are more likely to be closer to standard than the 1275cc versions. Should still be good fun to drive.
