Id like to do it, i dont know where or for how long it would last but this country does get me down.

I have relations in Canada and New Zealand, ive never been to either of these places so im not in a position to say they're better countries.

Im 24 and being a plumber/gas engineer etc i think work would be relatively easy to find (unlike office workers with specific qualifications) there is a wide range of jobs that i could fit into very easily and the mention of being a plumber is generally met with 'there is work everywhere for you' how true it is i dont know.

I know someone who worked in China for 6 months, he came back and within 2 weeks he'd arranged his job out there and moved there for good, he's not looked back since.

Basically i will live abroad soon, ideally before i get settled in a house and with a morgage here, i can always move back and ive only got money to lose. If i dont go ill spend my life thinking 'what if?' Ive met plenty of people through my job that wish they'd tried it when they were young enough to.

The thing about places like NZ is that most people seem to just think about all of the fun stuff there, like bungee jumping, etc. However, after speaking to people who come from there and have moved abroad, they said they never did any of that stuff and they had become quite bored of the place, just like people are over here.

I'd imagine quite a few people would be disappointed after moving over there, thinking it's something it's not.
 
Given the chance I don't think I would. Maybe years ago with the constant bombings & shootings in the province I'd have been keener to get away but I'm very settled and happy. As well as that my wifes and my own parents are quite elderly and they've only the one grandchild, I don't think either of us could take that away from them as he lifts them so much.
Enjoy travelling but always glad to get back home.
 
I really like Switzerland but it's a bit small.

The thing I like about the USA is you can get in your car and just drive anywhere. It's a great feeling of freedom. Mountains, desert, forests, plains, tropical, tundra... no passport needed.
 
Yes, America. Secondly Czech although I suspect it wouldn't actually be too much of an issue to move there, there are other reasons why I can't though.

Yeah because emigrating doesnt take large amouts of time, effort, money, hassle and preparation. Ill just sell my house instantly, pay off my debts, hop on a plane with a few thousand pounds all my stuff, show up in a strange country, instantly become a legal citizen and find a job and somewhere to live.

Simples... :p

Exactly! Upping and leaving your entire life, enjoyable or not, is a simple task and requires to smallest amount of prior-planning and absolutely no preparation! I mean he could just get a new wife! Set his kids up with some foster parents, settle his mortgage and off he goes! Wahey!
 
I'm gonna plough all my money in the bank then move to New Zealand within 3 years, if I can get a job out there.

I have nothing here, literally.

EDIT: I don't hate anything in this country, it makes me angry but when I sit down and think about it. I have the NHS, a good level of housing, my parents and sister, all the technology, good levels of education, a stable climate with enough water and food for all. We have a stable democracy, a stable currency. (In the sense that a loaf of bread isn't £1500 like in Zimbawbwe or summit)

I am seriously looking into moving for an adventure, a new start, a new way of life, independance. My friend moves out to NZ in August and I will go see him in 2011 and see if it's right for me.

It's a masive step going to the otherside of the world, alone. I will have to change my life style :p
