*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

I had an update tx from Vodafone earlier, to let me know they are still waiting for stock today, boo hoo! I'm hoping they get some in tomorrow ready for the weekend.

GOT MINE TODAY!11!!!

Firts quick thoughts - Screen is so rich and vibrant. I thought the Iphone screen was good, but this is truly amazing.

I do have a few little issues, and I'm really hoping some can chip in - There is the smallest of rattling when I shake the handset..and is the optical pad a little off centre for anyone else? I will post pics later, but it just seems as if there is a gap of maybe 1 mill on one side of the optical pad next to the handset. Other than that, I'm very happy.

Other people have mentioned that the optical pad is slightly off centre. The rattling is meant to be the camera lens.

I also have the rattling but I need to shake the phone with some welly before I can hear it and only slightly. Nothing to worry about IMHO.

I just used the Google Maps nav system today. I posted this in the "Android Apps" thread but for those interested -

Just used this to do my journey home from work which is circa 20 miles and a mix of motorway, city, town and country driving.

Must say it worked quite well. It did map out a strange route which was, although shorter, was far slower. I guess they need a "quickest/shortest route" option like most sat navs have.

When I ignored the turn it wanted me to take, the system quickly re-routed me and gave me the route I would normally take home. Very impressed at its speed.

The directions come in plenty of time and are easy to follow. The spoken directions take a bit of getting used to and, unfortunaetly, it doesnt pronounce some areas very well but its workable. Bit weird when it says "erd" or "ard" when it reaches a roundabout. Obviously coded as "rd" for roundabout on the map e.g. "main road rd" or something on the map so the text to speech software says it in the literal sense.

The map is zoomable right in and pans round and updates very quickly. You can even have extra layers added showing petrol stations, cafes, traffic etc etc

When I reached my destination it told me "destination is on your left" and even popped up a Streetview picture on the screen so I could find the house just by matching the image on the screen :D

Overall, for free, the system is good. Not as polished as professional systems but then it is only in Beta form at the moment and I expect great things from this.

This phone impresses me more and more each day :)

Guys,

Tethering works AMAZING with this.

I've plugged it into my pc, set it to tether, and it automatically created a new network connection and then i was able to browse any site and stream youtube without issues. It took like no time at all.

Absolutely amazing.

You mean 'acceptable'. Absolutely amazing would be the need to not have to use a USB cable to get it to work.

Well i went for the insureandgo insurance.. i happy for theft and and accidental damage for £26 with an excess of 25 :)

Enjoying this phone so much!

To be honest I agree with Fox. My N95 8gig does bluetooth tethering using the Nokia PC Suite and until these new phones dont start doing that I wont be changing from this.

I would have personally gone for loss as this is more likely than theft.
I just cant see myself leaving it anywhere, if i do then i deserve to not have it. +£17 more!

Theft is unlikely but i do live in Birmingham and seemed worth the extra just for peace of mind!

I'm quite likely to break it so!

What app do i download to make this work? It would help me out no end for work as i can do things from home, e-mail them to myself, then use tethering at work to access e-mails :)

You're right, my Omnia done it via WiFi. Don't see why there isn't an app that can do this yet.

Even though it doesn't bother me too much, as I have a mobile broadband dongle which does the job.

Had a look at one at lunchtime and quite liked it. Looking at a video review online though, it seems that embedded flash videos don't play too well? Can anyone with one confirm this? I was hoping to be able to use websites with embedded video like break.com or gametrailers, etc but from the looks of it the videos play poorly? If that's the case, then the only thing flash will bring to the phone is higher download costs as there is more to load and just adverts! Can you turn flash off in the browser for when you are on 3G, etc as downloading adverts will just be annoying. That's one thing about the iphone I suppose - no annoying flash adverts. And if the HTC Desire can't handle flash content properly all I can see is that it brings adverts to the browsing experience :(

So two questions for owners:

1. Can you disable flash for when you are on 3G and don't want to use up bandwidth on adverts

2. Can the flash handle flash game websites and embedded flash films on review sites, etc?
