***THE OFFICIAL GTX480/470 END USER REVIEW THREAD***

As opposed to buying them and keeping them in a display cabinet ;)

Seriously though, I still think I would go for the 5850 and clock it to a 5870. If the 470 was the same price and run at similar temps then it would be a decent card.

At least in Denmark the GTX 470 is in the same price point as HD5870 and since it competes pretty well with HD5870 I don't think it's that bad pricing. Also when taking into account that the GTX 470 uses less wattage than GTX275/280/285 and isn't as loud does make even more attractive.

And in upcoming DX11 games the GTX 470 does a pretty good job compared to HD5850 I'd say

Also with newer drivers the cards will mature just like the HD5xxx series which got like a 20% performance boost overall since the very first release drivers.

Anyhow two evga gtx 470 sc's should arrive friday :)

Just arrived this afternoon straight from Slovenia; :D

Will put up some more pictures and numbers later tonight or tomorrow!

Testing mine very soon this evening!

Also, noise/heat is pure urban legend BS ;)

Its totally silent on PC powerup & even under load you can hardly hear it. The EVGA GTX260-216 it replaced is much noisier ;)

Yea its pure urban legend that all the review sites say that its hot and loud. Most posts from users on here support that the card is hot and loud. Some people are using 70% fan which suggest the card is very hot. I have never had a card where 70% fan was needed to keep the card cool. We have all heard the fan in action from different sites no amount of people saying its not loud can change the fact that it is a loud card because the fan needs to be ramped up to keep the card cool.

^^ he speaks the truth, but everyones perception of what's loud and hot differs, especially when you have just spent over 400 notes on one..:p

I find it somewhat strange that the individual who has posted by far the most posts in the 'End user Review Thread' does not own the card(s) in question and given the manner of posts has no intention to ever do so.

Don't worry about it, there are wind-up merchants everywhere, just learn to ignore them. Some of the fanboys just can’t stop.

cancelled my gtx 470 pre order and ordered a gtx 480, which just shipped :D

finally i can get back to 3D gaming, gtx 260 is just nowhere near powerful enough for the newer games, my backlog of games is probably the biggest its ever been right now because i've been putting off playing a lot of games cos i want to play them in 3D with high frame rates. the passing for left 4 dead 2 releases tomorrow night aswell, can't wait

My GTX 480 is an absolute beast of a card

Fan noise up to 70-73% is low. Most games I have tried with max gfx + x32AA never push the fan speed beyond 60% which is silent for me as in you cannot hear it whatsoever in any way shape or form

Temps @ idle are sub 42C all round.

Under heavy load after running a game benchmark for a while it never gets to more than 80C for the GPU (GPU is the hottest part according to the GPUZ sensors).

Game benchmarks I tried were:

Batman AA
Resident Evil5
Street Fighter 4
Lost Planet Extreme Colonies Edition

Sweet :D What brand did you get and how much did you have to pay ?
Originally I placed an order on a Zotac GTX 480 for £444 (the very cheapest you can get a GTX 480 card for in Denmark), but since I had plans for SLi throwing out £888 just seemed a bit too much, especially since I could do a 3-way-SLi GTX 470 for the same price ;) So instead I cancelled the order and went for two EVGA GTX 470 SuperClocked cards (since they were the only GTX 470 to come in stock before may 1st) for £677... the last card for 3-way-SLi I may purchase in june/juli.
They should arrive tomorrow and then I can get them installed during the weekend.

Anyhow do post some results from you GTX 480 card - I always prefer end-user results over "review results" :D

i have been flicking through this thread and find nothing....is there actually any end user reviews/benchmarks in this thread?!

I wouldn't say it's not loud, but with the fan at about 65% it's not much different from my GTX280 with the fan at 65% and, from what I've seen so far, the temps aren't that much worse. I've setup a custom fan ramping on auto that gradually speeds up. Was playing Borderlands last night for about 4 hours, all detail max, all quality options in NVCP maxed (apart from AA which gives a weird outline to everything) and temps were max of 71 and the fan never went above 66%. That's acceptible for me as it's around the same as the card it replaced.

As I've mentioned before, the only problem I have with the card is the idle temps with 2 screens running. Really not good and NV's "fix" with a new bios that just speeds up the fan is just poor. Wish there was a way to set 2d clocks or set the 3d clocks much lower than current software provides.

It's definately hot and loud, but quite easy to manage so it's not intrusive.

Asus GTX480 @ £459.99. Wanted another EVGA but UK is not getting these in any sizeable quantity anytime soon (most have gone to US & Germany as they are the biggest markets for them apparently). Think Asus got the most 470/480 as they are big enough to place the largest order with Nvidia & dominate the market ;) so Asus is the best brand to get right now even though its only a 2 year warranty.

When/if I reapply the thermal paste temps will be between 9-12C lower again ;) I also only have 3 of my 4 case fans working right now due to my Noctua CPU HSF blocking the gfx card lefthandside case fan from fitting inside so when I get a lower height HSF & 980X my GPU temps will get lower still as the case fan blows directly onto my gfx card (I have an Alienware Predator2 Desktop case :D).

Top 2 graphs are running ingame benchies for Batman AA & Resident Evil5 with max everything on gfx as well as x 32AA :D Bottom right temp graph is windows idle values.

This card is so fast do not think once drivers are optimised there will be many games which do not run @ a very smooth FPS with max eye candy :D

Hmmm, how come there is no load on the GPU when you're playing games, the clock speeds don't seem to have gone up whilst gaming either....

Most users here who have just purchased their cards appear to post the noise levels are fine and nothing like what whats been posted around the net:confused:

Totally agree some people are only using this thread to troll.

I think it's all "comparatively speaking". Compare it to my old 280, very similar noise and heat. Compare it to a 5870, it's hot and loud.
