Asus rampage III Extreme

i dint really get that, but i read around, i plan to basic OC to 4.0 ghz using the method from here: http://www.guru3d.com/article/asus-rampage-iii-extreme-review/10

where u just choose it from the bios in the cpu level up function but for the ram i dont want to OC but will it auto detect the ram voltages or auto will create problems and i have to manually adjust it. i am worried cause i have no experience in this area.

this is ma ram: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-201-CS&groupid=701&catid=8&subcat=1392

I went for the G.Skill Ripjaws Modules (PC3-16000) with my R3E to keep with the red/black colour theme (and they're compatible with the NH-D14). I saw the Mushkin RAM but couldn't find anywhere in the UK that stocked it, although when I did find it abroad, it didn't seem to be much more expensive than other brands? It certainly wasn't as expensive as the Corsair DGT modules.

Don't do it the cheap way :P. Overclock the BCLK as well to get a good overclock.

The RAM will be overclocked as well because of the multiplier between the CPU BCLK and the RAM but yours will be able to cope no problem. However, using the automatic overclocking tool will increase the voltages accordingly so just watch that they don't get too high. From my experience, it shouldn't be an issue but as I said, try manual overclocking!

well im a bit niffed now i pre ordered 2 weeks ago now i find it instock in the uk to buy online and still have to wait for another 1 week +
hope they dont have it :( but the problem is its £25.00 cheaper.

on second thoughts they only offer a 28 day return to base after that u have to deal with it yourself. lol think ill give it a miss .

Hmm I don't have any videos of overclocking :p. The only overclocking I did was on an i7 920:

hmm well ill try follow the same procedure or something like i said when i have the rig setup ill make a thread here asking for help, but helios ur review was my deciding factor to buy the board , top notch work :)

i did some follow up reading, i think i will have to manually update the bios for my ram in order to make use of the ram i purchased and it seems i will have to manually oc the 980x to 4.0 or 4.2 havent decided yet but am scared cause i have no experience in overclocking wut so ever , /sigh, when i have all the pieces i guess ill prob just make contact with u guys and go ahead with it :D

Don't worry !!!! there are plenty of very experienced people on here that will be only too pleased to assist you when it comes to it. Take it slowly is one bit of good advice, and double check as you go, as you don't want any expensive mistakes.

Good luck with the build.

Mark

Have a look at this thread about the 980X:

Follow Mark's advice and you get to a good stable overclock with this beast of a CPU. :).

simulatorman, i realized our setups are very similar so i hope ull be able to guide to oc my processor and ram :), am trying to figure out how to pm u but i cant find it :S, dont wanna waste space on this post for unrelated chat :S

i have altered it not sure if its right though please advice.

about cpucooler list ill be using the megashadow with two 120mm noctua fans. it is my believe this will cover one ram slot on the r3e. as it does on the UD7.

also the noctua 14 covers 4 ram slots on the UD7 as i believe it will do the same with the R3e. i still dont know if i can latch the extra sink given with the motherboard and the mega shadow cooler. will update as soon as the board is actually released and gets to me in dubai :S
