Well the absolute cheapest way is to find the items yourself and disenchant them for materials. The next cheapest is probably buying the cheapest greens that disenchant into the materials you need. And then buying the materials themselves. Yes, it was probably a mistake if it's your first character, it doesn't really net much gold at those levels unless you're selling the disenchanted powders/shards.. But that won't level it up for you.

this may sound ridiculous, but it literally feels like WotLK has caused the community for this game to fall through a hole in the earth. i have never felt so detached or 'disconnected' from the beating heart of an MMO before - its own playerbase. everybody seems to play in their own little bubbles, interested only in epics/gearscore or their arbitrary, meaningless 'achievements'; the guild structure seems to only exist nowadays as a means of amassing capital and the ease and convenience of raids (which are essentially pug's only with a brand and teamspeak).

ive tried repeatedly to 'get back into' WoW - knowing that half of the fun of the game lies in its community: in finding a good bunch to play with and in communicating and generally interacting with fellow players on a server (of both factions, friendly and adversary). but it's just impossible. in the last year i've probably spent £50 on subscriptions that have gone nowhere. seeking out 'advice' or any semblance of 'community' on the WoW-Europe forums, these forums, or any ex-guild/old-server forums... all fruitless. the bleak picture i get for much of WoW-EU's PvP servers is that, thanks to the profit-driven move to open up migrations and faction-changes, every server has slowly regressed into an hegemony of horde or alliance exclusively. 90:10 A-H ratios, deserted servers, mass-guild/player migrations... it's a joke. the centrality, the feeling of 'home', all the hours spent sitting around chatting in Ironforge during vanilla... no, i don't just think this is the rose-tinted effects of my nostalgia glasses. the game had a different ethos, a different force driving it forward. now, the strategy blizzard have taken to milk as much profit out of the franchise and its' expansions before the product life-cycle is over, is so blatent and so distasteful that it almost leaves a sour tang in the mouth.

after attempting for the last time this month to find a 'new home' for my much-played toons - i think i'll accept defeat and throw in my towel. hours of scanning realm-forums and posting in communities every day turned up nothing: it even seemed impossible to find a server with a good horde:alliance ratio that was still active and alive. world's top MMO? it's a game full of zombies; the playerbase may as well all be bots. achievement points? i think i'll spend my next £15 on an Xbox LIVE gold membership- somewhere where achievement points actually carry a modicum of currency.

:(

Yeah man I was under the impression that both Enchanting and disenchanting would skillup :(
Have resorted to AH whorin lol

Yep first character, managed to get some extra powders put up on AH, should allow me to level up a bit if theyve sold by the time I get home.

I do agree with what you're saying, that's why I recently re-rolled with a mate and joined a leveling guild where most people are low level, laid back and just have a banter.

But if you're going to Xbox Live looking for a good community, you're certainly looking in the wrong place.

You are about right.

But try telling that to the WoW community, I still play the game, grudingly, but only because there is nothing better currently out there.

It is the nastitest, most mean spirited community I have ever had the misfortune to stumble across. Blizz has dumbed the game down to the lowest common denomanator (as you said) just to make some money and whilst this is benefitting them at the moment whilst the competition is so poor in the long term they have hedged their bets with players who dont particularly give a toss about the game but more want to win their "ep0x" and not really care. As soon as another decent game comes along the "community" blizz has focused on will move on because they have no real loyalty to the game rather than playerbase who played the game from day one, the same playerbase WoW has spent the last year trying so hard to alienate.

I love WoW, it is the best MMO out there by a mile but the community makes me loathe the game like no other. I am currently trying to get into LOTRO again at the mo, already I can see the community is vastly superior I am just trying to convince myself that the gameplay is good enough.

I am, unfortunately, one of the poor saps who will contune to play despite the poop that we get fed as I still like the game at heart, have played it for too long to suddenly dislike it. Personally though I cannot wait for the day that another decent MMO comes along and Blizz/Activison is abandoned en masse by the **** playerbase it has built up and the game quickly goes **** up. It will make me happy in a way as the players who like the game are **** on in favour of the jonny come latelies who will just as quickly abandon the game as soon as something else comes on offer.

But what can you do :p (apart from hope I can get into LOTRO this time :p)

i know that WoW-whines are the flavour-of-the-month (or maybe make that year/decade)- and ive always kept a measured and controlled distance from the game/community. "each to their own" and whatnot. so im sorry if that last post did come across as nothing but an incessant, irritating whine. i guess im just frustrated: WoW is a game that i have found fantastically fun for so long, and now it just seems impossible to get back into. the fact that no server in europe looks fit for Alliance-side PvP is a pretty bad start. my expectations and 'needs' as a player/customer aren't sky-high: just somewhere to casually experience the content of WotLK, without the gearscore/achievement insanity, and with a little bit of banter and community! i did my time as a hardcore pvp'er/raider back in vanilla and no longer expect such high-standards of the game... but at the moment, it seems to fail to even deliver the basic premise of an MMO.

Alliance side PvP you should try Ravendholdt (spelling?) RP-PvP server. There are about 3-4 pretty active pvp guilds on both horde and alliance so world pvp as well as BG pre-mades are pretty mch guaranteed.

Check out the realm forum for some more info but it was pretty positive from what I heard, I got invited to one of the top two ally PvP guilds (I think commitment and activity is more important than gear as I am a staunch anti arena player) but I stuck with Doomhammer to keep playing with an IRL friend of mine of mine, at least for now until PvP BG's become more mainstream with Cata

thanks very much for the recommendation -- genuinely. one of the first qualified statements about EU realms ive read after almost a week of research. RP-PvP? never considered RP before... hmm. i have little reservations at this point, to be honest. did some top-PvP myself in vanilla-era: top guild on misery battlegroup, used to be the rank14-factory for our server before they created the cross-realm battlegrounds. great times! i guess it is no surprise that only the RP-denizens of WoW are still keeping any sort of cohesive 'community' together. the rest really is just gearscore + achievement farm.

I'm playing on an RP-PVP server and there are still plenty of "Anal <insert talent and/or ability here>" jokes running wild on Trade chat, and glancing at the realm forum indicates the more vocal playerbase seems to be in the 14-18 year old region. From my limited experience I would not deem RP servers having a more mature playerbase by default, however I don't wish to generalise all 14 to 18 year olds as being immature.

Shameless plug: Is there anyone on here in dire need of an Arms, Fury or Protection Warrior by any chance? The guild I'm currently in can't down Sindragosa 25N so, lookin' for greener pastures.

My pleasure.

As I say research the realm forums sone first as I know there has been some upheaval recently with one of the bigger horde guilds upping sticks. But they are always active on forums organising events.

I found that people do not expect you to roleplay if they are, they do however want people to respect their right to roleplay and not ruin their own experience. Generally I find the community on the rp realms netter than others but still not perfect.

I had my old vanilla Druid I got to field marshal on shadowmoon before it became a Russian realm. Was one of the first to get justicar title as well. Good times

Is anyone considering starting a new account? I really want the rocket mount, but everyone I know has no interest in the game (Except for one, who I already RaF'ed and got the Zhevra for). Anyone want a RaF invite? :)

I was pretty lucky with the RAF, I got it last year and got the Zhevra, but it bugged and apparently only 1 char is supposed to have the RAF mount, all my chars have the Zhevra but unfortunately the rocket fixed the bug, but I was still able to get the rocket without doing anything :D

Used to play wow on RP server back in 2005-8... never rp'ed but enjoyed a more mature community... some of the time :).

Same here. I played on Argent Dawn for 4 years and the community is still just about beating back the idiots and dregs that already took over other servers. Towards my last 6 months in WoW I turned off all General, Trade, LFG and Whisper channels and only lived in my guild and friends channel. At least you didn't had to deal with annoying kids, general idiots or incessant gold sellers. I hear that Gear Scores are the latest craze but luckily I stopped playing before having to observe that weird subculture.

I think back fondly of the days on Argent Dawn where you would meet up random people in the Wetlands, quest a whole afternoon together and meet up again the next day to quest further. Or ask in /general in a particular area for help and having to wrestle through 20 offers of help to thank everyone.
Or not knowing where a particular quest giver is and having someone ride out to you to show. Now it's all 'LOL get QUEESHELPER NAB!!!!1111'. Perhaps idiot has a point, but it took all the personality and sociability out of it. Many things did.

Even if WoW goes back to a Vanilla/TBC-esque format, I'm still done with it. Greatest MMO ever made and I got to play it at the highest competitive level during the golden years. It was never the actual game that made it so golden, but the people that played at the time. They have now all left. Bring on the next one I say! :p

:D

You bring back oh so many memories when I leveled Enchanting. Days spent in Shadowmoon Valley to collect Netherweave, to make greens and then Disenchant for mats and hopefully skill points.

The best way is to find a guide and follow it. The most fun way is to search the world for recipe's to make cheap greenies and DE them.

Stick with it, at 450 I made sickening amounts of gold selling mats and doing rare enchants.
