No, they know beforehand. But I agree that while I may object to many of these people, their actions, and their policies, they're all human beings and being a politician is a uniquely tough, and often unrewarded (over the long term) role.

So I have *some* sympathy for someone struggling at the end of a very long day.

Just not for Ed Balls. I'd rather have seen him look like that.
