*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Anyone know a good app to monitor traffic usage, particularly 3G. I've been using Smart Monitor Lite but it's a bit iffy. Was using 3G at work this morning doing a bit of ebaying and checked it after the session, said I'd used 0b. Checked it a few hours ago and it still said I'd used 0b, this was after some more surfing and a bit of beebplayer. Just checked it now and it says 43mb used :|. I really want one that will update in real-time so I can properly monitor my usage. I don't want any suprises. What's Orange's policy if I go over 500mb, a warning or an instant charge?

I use NetCounter, but I've also heard good things about 3G Watchdog, Netcounter certainly updates in real time and does both 3G and WiFi, separately, and has custom reset dates to coincide with your billing date

Ok some one explain when i'm on wifi i cannot brows some sites like talk.maemo.org, acuweather and some apps like facebook, fring, market (now and then) and google voice (now and then) but bbc site works everytime but when i'm on 3G everything works.

Those sites do work but not always

Locale, $9.99. It's the dogs doo-dahs mind and the only app I've paid for. As I approach work it auto-silences the phone, at 11pm it switches off all data connections and mutes the phone so I can sleep without interruption, but has an exception that puts the phone on loud if a family member calls (i.e. an emergency). Free add-ons for it also add functionality like wake-on-lan.

Are you using this on the Desire? Any problems with it? Seen a few comments about it not working properly for some people and getting settings muddled etc and was concerned such issues might be exacerbated by a brand new phone so interested to hear your experiences.

May be worth trying going into your mobile network setting and searching for networks, then connect to the correct one. You could also try the select automatically option just above the manual selection bit :)

Gives same error :)

Pretty much tried everything, funny thing is sometimes when you reset the phone it has signal for a second or 2 on bootup...then boom gone and never to be seen again.

Found it, cheers.

When making calls, the screen will sometimes go black. Does anyone else's do that? :/

the phone has a sensons that blanks the screen when you make/recieve a call and put the phone to your ear(or in my case I have the desire in my old touch hd case which covers the sensor so the screen blanks, when I first got the phone it took me awhile to work that out. till I get the new case(which hopefully will be some time next week) I have to keep sliping the phone out of the case to make/answer calls).

I tried the car charger today and it seems to be working, will find out over the weekend how good it is as I'll be like 300miles from home so will really get to test it.

Deep if you got an email from them saying it's been dispatched then you should get it the following day(even tho in the email it says it'll take like 3days), I got the email tuesday and the cradle came wednesday.

Ah right. I don't think I was covering the sensor, it's the speaker thing at the top right? My room is quite dark at the moment, could that be the cause?

It seems to be working fine now. :)

If you look at it in the right light you'll see it, about level with the power light, on the opposite side, there are two sensors that catch the light differently to the rest of the black screen surround, one of those is the "proximity" sensor that'll detect your ear close to the phone when making the call (It's the light sensor used for the auto brightness, and when it receives no light during a call it knows your ear is up to the speaker). It switches off the screen to stop your face conducting and making inputs while the phone is against your face, although I believe there's an option somewhere to make the screen stay lit up during the call, but I can't for the life of me remember where.

Yeh, I've just put it under a lamp light and can see the blueish unlit led light on the top left. Will try not to cover it next time. :)
