Surely this can't be right?

1954: If you think David Cameron is frustrated at finding himself without a majority, spare a thought for poor Great Yarmouth council candidate Bob Peck. Tied on 1,034 votes with Labour opponent Charlie Marsden, he was offered a pack of cards by the returning officer and told the candidate who drew the highest number would win. Mr Peck picked a three while his rival drew a lucky seven to claim the seat. Barmy? Maybe, but it's all within the rules.

From the BBC's election commentary.

Hmm the Conservatives could try to go on without gaining any support whatsoever, which would result in their queens speech being voted down and another election being called.

They would probably do better the second time around?

I believe off finance alone they would do better a second time.

I don't think Labour have it within it to fight two General Elections within a year.

What reason did they give the students? Something to do with having the option of 2 places to vote?

Not that it matters of the reason why, but my friend said it was along the lines of the locals shouldn't be waiting around all night. At the end of the day, if you are registered to vote in a constituency, local or not, how on earth can you give someone else priority in voting over someone else. You queue up, and wait your turn to vote, no moving some to the front, back, or anywhere.

That's what I was thinking, most Lib Dem funds are probably used as well.

Gideon, how could they even tell you were a student anyway? Just asked, "Are you a student?" ?

Unfortunately most people in this country are a bit dim and simply vote for the same party every single time. For the die hard Labour fans for example, Gordon Brown himself could visit them, murder the family dog and urinate on the carpet and they would STILL vote Labour.

I gather Australians are a bit less ridiculous, another reason why I far prefer the country..

well I voted conservative in the early 90's because as a serving soldier they were for the forces. I now vote labour because as a working class citizen they are for the workers and families. so most arent dim, you are for thinking as such!

And it would also give the imbeciles who turned up at the polling stations with half an hour to go and then moan about losing their right to vote when they didnt get in in time a second crack at it wouldnt it. :p

Lets hope the lib dems do a deal with tories and increase the non tax allowance to 10k, and do the fuel stabiliser to keep price of petrol down.

To be honest thats the only two things I even care about :P

Labour are PRO non working class, I.E. those without a job!

Classic case of someone using themselves as a counter example to a generalisation. He's not talking about the exceptions to the rule but the overall thought process of the average voter.

A lot of them most probably were dolies stuck in the pub drinking and feeding the bandit all day without realising it was election day. Then they heard from fat bloke in flat a cap who sits in corner drinking snake bite that he voted earlier.
All of a sudden they realised that if £ABOUR lost..........
It would be the end of their benefits and their glorious life style so they all descended on said polling stations at 21:55.
These polling stations had a poor turnout in the past.

:D:D:D:D
Just kidding.

They are for the benefit scroungers, raising NI 0.5% hurts the workers the most out of every group of people. Their very high spending, and tax and spend methodology hurts the working class the most.

Indeed
that coupled with the stopping of the 1% Ni raise, everyone in the country would do well out of it, it would cover any raise in VAT for anyone who works, and make the vat increase claim back money from spongers.

If the Lib Dems do go in with the Tory's none of their policies will ever see the light of day. It will be a complete mistake, a lot of the Liberal voters did so because they didn't want a Conservative government.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but you are essentially voting for who gives you the biggest concessions right there and then? What about the wider consequences of those give-aways, or what everyone else has to deal with?

But they will have jobs within a working government and given that the Libs have essentially flopped after all of the pre-election media hype then I think at least some of them will settle. They gave it their best effort for years yet still lost seats, it's probably time to cut their losses because they have to be thinking what they can possibly do differently to improve in the next election.
