We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year.
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found?
The same old fears.

Can all those people who voted Lib dems please tell me why they voted for them and what they do exactly career wise?

Because they wanted good electoral reform and would make the tax system fairer by raising the allowance to £10k giving everyone £700 back, yet unlike Cons didn't want to mess with human rights act or give patronising tax breaks to married couples. They were also clearer about where spending cuts would be made. I'm a student working part time at the local animal rescue centre and doing freelance computer work.

Well I'm very pleased with this outcome.

Hung parliament (no Conservative majority).
Greens got Brighton.
BNP told to **** off.
Hammersmith (me) stayed red.
Ball now entirely in Clegg's court.

Chuffed :D

This pretty much for me.

One wonders if there will be anything left of the Lib Dems if they make the move everybody is assuming they will?

This.

Except I'm currently working full time for the NHS as a Domestic, and soon to be a Student Nurse.

But how far would they bring down the 40% tax band to pay for it? They refused to specify.

You can probably calculate it using the government tax revenue figures I imagine. However ensuring that people have enough money to live on is more important than protecting the disposable income of others. It reduces tax credit claims as well thus making further savings in the benefit system.

I voted lib dem in Sheffield. I work for a civil engineering consultancy with mostly public sector clients. Tory majority would have probably meant redundancies soon. Labour and Lib Dems may buy some time.

This is the reason I've always disliked the tax credits system. Let's tax you, and incur the administration costs of that, and then.. give it back to you, and incur the administration costs of that, and then make it so complicated people don't make the appropriate claims! Fairness and efficiency at it's best!

One thing is for sure, Browns political career is finished, the knives will be out for him in a way not seen since Julius Caesar got knobbled.

Actually he increased his share of the vote in his constituency once again. He has a rather snug lifestyle as an MP waiting for him regardless of what happens.

I think the idea of the Lib Dems snuggling up to the Tories is laughable. Labour should ditch Brown, put David Milliband in his place and give Clegg some concessions to form a coalition. It's the best option.

The Tories are all smoke and mirrors, just you wait and see... if they get into government.

The UK tax system is so screwed up I can't believe it.

By raising the personal allowance to an average liveable wage (which the minimum wage is supposed to be) we ensure that people are taxed only on disposable income, this eliminates tax credits and allows you to have one flat tax for everyones disposable income which can be set at any level without risk of causing poverty. This would save so much money in paperwork it's unreal.
