*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

Gave in and just bought one..... Do I really need to leave it to charge for 6-12 hours like they told me before doing anything with it? :(

i tried, but i ended up using it for hours setting it up while it charged :D then i used it once it was fully charged (few hours) then just stuck it on over night for a good 8 hours or so

im sure it will be fine

Erm, I've just checked my Voda account for the first time, and the tariff of £25/month I thought I asked for is listed as £21.28/month.

It also doesn't say anything about my 500mb data.

Im looking to get the sony mw600 as I can plug my tf10s into it, will this work with the desire fine? Ive never had a bluetooth phone before

I think I may have solved the sync groups issue, strange as the solution is the exact same as when I had my Magic before Wysie's modified contacts.apk became a part of Cyanogen rom.

1:
Because when you click menu > View in People on the HTC Desire you can't choose what groups to only view you need to replicate the default contact groups in Gmail via your browser and put a dash in front of the name of each replicated group so those new groups show up at the top and are easy to tell from the stock groups: "- Work" for example.

2:
Move all your contacts to the replicated groups and completely ignore the default Gmail groups from now on but don't do anything with the Starred In Android group as this is the "Favourites" group on the phone, might be useful to have.

3:
On People on the Desire click the 2nd tab called Groups and then simply delete the replicated groups you don't want showing up on the phone so for example you could have a custom group called "- Phone" and you only want those contacts in that group showing up on the People listing so all you have to do is delete the others. You can't delete the default groups hence why they were replicated and contacts moved there instead.

3:
Once done click the "Phone" button and click Menu > Phone Settings and untick the option to Save to Contacts, this stops unsaved numbers autosaving to your contacts lists because that's just a bit annoying, you can manually add unsaved numbers from call history if need be later.

And that should be the end of that!

im not happy with the default music player on the desire (i cant find a option to set shuffle on all songs). Any better player app i should be looking at...cheers

Guys, I can’t remember where I read it, or set it, but there is an option where you can block text messages coming through if it’s not a normal mobile number. It’s either on the Vodafone website or the handset itself.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Adam

Jay, you finally succumbed :D

I put mine on charge and started playing with it pretty much immediately, whilst leaving it charging. I then left it charging overnight.

What I then tried to do was let the battery run down as much as possible before charging it overnight for the first three or four charge cycles. Apprently this can help "condition" the battery. It's now easily lasting two days with light use.

has the facebook and friends stream app fallen over or something? the Friend Stream just says "no recent updates" and when i go on the facebook app it says:

"an error occurred while fetching data [malformed json]"

Bah!

friends stream seems broken, i also dont see a point to it as i dont do twitter or whatever the other option is

Sounds odd, remove and re-add synced facebook via friend stream?

I use the official FB and Twitter clients so can't confirm.

Can you explain this a bit more ??

In mine I choose "phone" and I leave the rest unticked. This means that only the phone contacts appear and the Google ones dont. If I tick the Google ones and untick Phone then its only Google ones that show.

Mebbe I got the wrong end of the stick with your point ??

That's because you're storing your contacts on the phone and not in your Google account. A risky move because if you lose your phone or something happens then all your contacts are gone. If you manage all contacts via Google (Gmail) then your contacts are always saved.

My workaround solves the issues by managing contacts initially in Gmail then creating a Phone contacts group(s) so you can then manage what groups show up on the phone (via the Groups tab in people) leaving your Gmail only contacts just there.

App jobby...i havent seen any settinsg regarding notification intervals.

Ahh any suggestions, I see people using handcent and chomp but quite like the sense messaging app tbh.

EDIT: 'Missed reminder' from the market does exactly what I need, works on the desire!
