*** The Official HTC Desire (Bravo) Thread! ***

What are people using to convert video files from various formats into something the Desire will play, such as mp4 or wmv format?

Red Kawa, it's the only one that i've found that converts .avi and keeps the sound in sync when played back on the desire.

hoping 2.2 sorts the sync problems with the video players and the youtube app...

Been reading up on flashing (from Orange) to a generic rom .... gulp looks rather complex ... although not too bad ...

Basically seems to involve creating a goldcard for the phone and then running a RUU*exe file on the PC?

From what I can gather it's not too difficult and fairly safe - the biggest issue at present is that there aren't original network-branded ROM images available so you can't flash it "back". If you thus have a warranty issue you'll probably have trouble when you return it and they find you've flashed it.

hey camalot/scottland (and maybe khaaan if you meant you was getting the car holder in post on page 120)

i've just received the same holder from that seller..not desire specific as the listing says (its boxed/labeled nexus one!) and has no protection for the sides/back of your phone..i very carefully slid it in as it was tight (ooh err!) and same out and it scratched the soft back cover so unless that doesn't bother you be warned!! i'm sending mine back probably out of principle.. shame as the suction part looks ok but the holder has sharp edges to the plastic.. i'm gonna wait for specific oem or one that has some cushioning!

Mine seems fine on that front, there is so little difference in physical dimensions of the N1/Desire I wouldn't see it a a problem?

You were putting the phone in from the top?

Ordered one of those Android printed neoprene pouches from the Bay yesterday. Being posted tomorrow from HK. Estimate of delivery time? Last time I ordered from HK on eBay, it took 2 weeks. :/

If it's the same one I ordered, I purchased it on the 28th April. Still not here. :(

any one rooted their desire?

if mine is generic sim free do i need to make the gold card?

I have, just with the stock (rooted) ROM for now as I was having a few issues with the modaco custom ROM (it's only the 1st release...)

I have a generic/sim free one and no, you don't need to make a gold card. I couldn't get it to work from Windows 7 x64, so I did it from Ubuntu instead.

Read the rooting guide which is a sticky in the desire forum at Modaco. That's what I followed, I've not had great success getting A2SD working so I'm leaving it for the time being.

thats the only reason to root a desire, how comes you not had success?

I was using the custom modaco ROM with A2SD baked in, but I was having a few issues with it so I'm just leaving it for a while. I think applying A2SD on the stock rooted ROM is fine for a lot of people though.

After a bit of searching I just replicated the feature I missed most from my Sony Ericsson phone. Flashapp lets you use the Desire's camera led as a torch (Desire only - or I'd have posted in Android Apps).

After a few days usage I can't complain about the desire at all.

gah, i phoned up Orange on thursday to sort out an upgrade was told I was 2 days too early and that they would phone me back tomorrow and sort then, now ive just checked and there out of stock

how does this "sync" with a pc? ie is there any software or is it just as an external drive?

you need to use htc sync ver:2.0.33, an older version comes on the memory card that comes with the phone. it allows you to syn your contacts and calander, but for whatever reason I can't seem to get the calander entries from my phone to be transfered to outlook 2007 calander(worked ok getting entries off outlook onto the phone tho). when you connect your phone upto the pc with the usb cable you get 4 options one of then being to syn.

ronaldo basically if you have a locked and branded phone you need the goldcard, if on the other hand you have a unlocked/unbranded(be it bought simfree or payg/contract from the likes of cpw) then you don't).

I got the missing free battery(the one that was ment to come with the desktop cradle. on friday I got the 'your usb charge/syn cradle with 2nd battery slot has been dispated' email so was wishing they'd made an error and would send me another cradle as well(so one in the bed room and one by the pc), but that was not to be :( ) on saturday, put it to charge earlier and the light turned green(meaning its charged) in like 2-3hours but putting the battery in the phone shows it's only like 80% charged.

wont contacts/cal sync with gmail directly on the phone?

Just wondering, cus i cant connect my iphone to my pc (mobo wont install the driver properly.. p55 socket error blah etc)
but if the desire is just "drag/drop" for music then i cant see it being any hassle
