This is why we need both fixed terms and an automatic selection of PM based on largest party. Force them to adopt a more concillary tone and prevent this sort of uncertainty.
"force"? Good luck!

The only one I see working in the interests of the country is AMS - but even I don't understand it all and grow bored reading about it. What chances is there for the public?

I'd still prefer FPTP with standardised constituency sizing.

Is clearly not in any way representative of how people voted? It's not rocket science after all.

Why would PR be any better, why would it make a better goverment?

At the moment the system is based on your local area, which is why you have the large difference. If people in your area want labour they get labour. Why would a national system be any better.

I like how the Labour backbenchers are claiming that Gordon Brown is a brave man and has done the best thing. Suggesting he's leaving with some sort of honour. His party took a resounding beating, he had to go! Typical, he's hanging on as long as he can though - he wants his summer holiday money and then go after that.

sorry dont have time to read much, but does this mean that Peter Mandelson will become PM with Nick Clegg as Home Secretary ?

Hah, no.

But you're basing that on your own view. Other people (and I am not saying I am one of them) may feel that a Conservative minority Government is not in the best interests of the Country.
That's irrelevent!

Other people may feel that a Conservative majority Government is not in the best interests of the Country.

Get it?

Boulton credibility factor +10

Campbell moron factor +100
Away from tv, care to briefly summarise?

I fear we are going around in circles now. With respect, the arguments for PR have been made time and again in this thread and they are very compelling in my view. The only reasoned argument against is a lack of understanding amongst the electorate and that can easily be remedied.

Perhaps a referendum on PR is 'dangerous' or that people are in favour of a more proportional system of government because even a 5-year old can understand that

36% - 306
29% - 258
23% - 57

effective governing doesn't mean representing the peoples' preference all the time, a mixed-affiliation government would lack direction and hardly get any important issues voted

if PR was the ideal form of government why was it not part of the Lib Dems core manifesto??
Or conversely, if Labour are such fans, why not legislate a referendum in the last 13 years??

Why are they greedy? I don't understand that at all.

Playing both sides to maximize what they can get? Despite the Conservatives having the electoral mandate?

By the way, I don't think people understand this point at all. Even both parties together don't have a majority, which means they will need to form deals with the nationalist parties.

And what do they want?

More money + less cuts in those regions.

Now, tell me, what will happen.
