From what I have seen over the last few days all I can say is

Our election process and our political system is turning into a bigger joke than the American system (and that's something to be said)

I honestly thought that they might be able to bring back some credibility to the country after the disaster they made of our finances over the last couple of years - but no.... we are beginning to look like some backwater in the EU that can't even decide on who or what basterdised hybrid party we want to determine our future of forced austerity.

I really can't see what any of these leaders have to offer us - as they are all looking equally ridiculous.

If we had standardised constituency sizes, there wouldn't be a problem. Similarly is the Scottish weren't so anal, there wouldn't be a problem.

I know this is a simplistic statement, but seriously what a farce. Having to make up seat numbers with a coalition just to find out who is going to govern the country is ridiculous. Hardly anyone voted for libdems and labour got less votes. So it should be just conservative going into number 10 by themselves since they effectively won, end of.

It's definitely getting more like an ebay auction now, neither party really wants the LibDems but there's no way they'll be outbid on them.
They'll be re listed by the winning bidder in a month or so, or on a free listing weekend.

Just remember all of you that are in favour of PR, what's happening right now is exactly what every single PR election will be like. The politicians will decide who leads you based on backroom deals, closed meetings and political horse trading.

Well I have to say it seems like a Con/Lib coalition, if not understanding is pretty much inevitable now - it will be interesting to see what other concessions the LD's have wrung out of the Tories aside from the proposed referendum on AV, and of course the details of the AV system which the public appears they will get a vote on! :)

Isn't it just terrible, parties being forced to compromise and work together to form a government. Simply horrendous.

To all those saying this is a farce and making the UK look silly, take a look at the elections of a number of other European countries....

There are many many coalitions, and in most cases in the rest of Europe, bargaining and bartering go on for WEEKS.

Do some research ;)

And to those saying PR would stop this, LOL!! PR would give us this scenario in every election after!!

He commands a huge amount of respect amongst all political parties - especially within the Labour Party. As I've said, he's an 'old hand' who wants the Party to survive. People like that can change the direction of the Party from the inside, regardless of whether they are MPs or not.

Not to mention that Diane Abbot was pretty much agreeing with him and she is an MP.

This is what scares me about a referendum on PR. People will vote for it without having a clue.

Surely the same criticism can be applied to an election full stop :p
