Just been catching up on the evening's events. Last thing I caught earlier was Gordon Brown resigning.

This is just mental - trying to make the sort of coalition decisions that take other countries months in the space of a few hours.

Exciting and worrying times we live in.

At least she had the decency to sod off!

perhaps you're thinking of this one:

There is nothing wrong with joining the Euro were the whole idea reformed as a currency for equal countries (UK, France, Germany, Belgium, etc)
I never made any comment about joining the Euro - just about your remark that Clarke was "not as pro-Europe as he is made out to be".

It is essentially the reason why he has never been party leader and no longer Chancellor

Everyone makes out Clarke to be as pro-Europe as Labour and LD are ... who are prepared (well many of them are) to join the Euro come what may.
Clarke sees that the idea while good, but very badly implemented - which is a major difference

Hum, are they really "equal" though? Germany is a huge manufacturing economy, we are definitely not!

Being able to set our own interest rates is critical in times of turmoil such as these. One size definitely does not fit all when you have wildly differing economies with a single currency... :p

*strokes £ lovingly*

The make up of the economy is not that important really, what is important is the stability of the economy.

I think that you may not have noticed that New Labour have been in power for the past 13 years and despite apparently being "prepared to join the Euro come what may" seem not to have done so.

Well - at least it looks like Labour may get a chance to fulfil their 1997 manifesto pledge on electoral reform :/

Well. its showed Clegg up to what he truly is, turns out its not been "fair discussions" with labour, he's been ratting everything the tories have been saying to him back to labour.

Well, if he jumps in with labour, its an election within the year, because the tories will still have enough of a vote to block vote no to any and every policy the coalition wants to put though as there is NO way labour can keep all that rabble in check should it happen.

Good thing in this, both parties will be destroyed in the next election, as the people wont have it again.

What's unfair about that? If I was in his position, I'd be saying "These guys have offered me (x), (y) and (z). Can you do better?"

Seeing that "the people" were stupid enough to get themselves into this mess to begin with, I have no confidence that they won't "have it again."

Because he said he wasnt doing that, what he said he was doing was just keeping labour up do date on how things were going, IE, not the press flim flam, what he has actually been doing is relaying details of the whole talks, without opening formal negotiations and telling labour what they need to do to make a deal.

What you have missed is the fact for a huge amount of voters this situation has either not happened in their lifetime or they didnt fully understand what happened in these circumstances.

When you have labour MP's, former labour MP's, and every political commentator calling it tawdry, wrong, morally bankrupt and self serving, then people are going to take notice of what is going on.

The last thing labour and the lib dems need is the population actually taking an interest in politics, even with PR.

I never had respect for Clegg and the liberals with their unworkable shells of policies, which knowing they will never be put to the test do not have to be thought through, but they really are pushing it now. If there is a lib / lab cooperation in the offing i feel my first march coming on. Should that happen anyone for a tory boy riot? We could march on parlianment and then go for drinks at the RAC club.
