Also looks like inheritance tax change and marriage recognition to go, possibly tax bandings to be looked at as a compromise.

Referendum on AV with equal sized constituencies and a fixed 4 year term.

Sounds great so far.
5 years it seems - adventurous!

Equal sized constituencies - jimp worthy.

I'm confused by all the people claiming that the Conservatives are going to save us "just like they did the last time".

From what I can gather, governments have inherited problems from the government preceding them all the way back to 1945 and beyond. All of which have dealt with those problems with varying degrees of success.

Most of the Tory Boys in here seem to suggest that every Conservative government has had to 'clean up' the mess left by the Labour government before them but I can't find any evidence of this.

If anything, most of the 'mess' was created by the Conservative or Labour government the time before that.

Maybe there's just a natural cycle of 10-15 years in which a government rides a wave of popularity before the population descends into disillusionment and kicks them out.

[/general rambling mode]

Either way, I came to the conclusion that a Con-Lib coalition was probably the best outcome for the country once it was clear we had a hung parliament with a Conservative majority and I'll stick by that. If only because at least we now have a decisive ruling government, even if it wasn't the government I voted for.

As per your first point, I'm sure it's just that as governments are left too long to implement their policies, the more the weaknesses of them start to show through, and the more complacent the cabinet gets. I would argue that it is imperative that the government is replaced every few years or so otherwise we'd just end up with a government so diligent and yet unbalanced in its implementation of its particular ideology that it can't see that the excess imperfect implementation of that ideology is what is beginning to cause problems.

That said, I'm very excited to see what happens in regards to this Con-Lib coalition. It could either go very well and having more than one viewpoint on their whipped policies will allow them to revise them for the better compromise, or they could just not agree on anything and it'll go very badly. Time will tell I suppose.

Not my fault for you being dependent on Labour for you livelyhood and not standing on your own two feet

Typical pompous view. Anyone who works is standing on their own two feet regardless of who they work for you numpty. Or do you believe that you only stand on your own two feet if you are self made and trample on people along the way?

If Cameron can deal with flare-ups in the same calm manner he dealt with hecklers on the campaign trail, then this might just work...

Both parties have a moral duty to do their utmost to make this work IMO.

Today/tonight has been full of "I remember when...." moments.

Compelling viewing, quite fascinating even for a Brit, I bet viewers worldwide were watching with jaws on the floor at how things are done in the UK. So totally and utterly awesomely 'British' watching GB jump in the old jag to hand in his notice to Liz, then Dave pops in for a 2 minute interview and walks away hired then walks straight into a ready and waiting No 10.

Wonder what the markets will make of it all tomorrow.

I wouldn't either. **** Obama TBH if that's his attitude.
He had similar disdain towards Brown:

The Prime Minister gave Mr Obama an ornamental pen holder made from the timbers of the Victorian anti-slave ship HMS Gannet.... All he got [in return] was a set of DVDs.

Or until the coalition breaks down and they call a new election.

You guys were the ones saying hung parliaments don't work.
Go and do some reading. It's a coalition.
