z5500's or custom?

Yeah they are huge things and weigh a ton. How much headroom have you got between the bed and amp, cos they do get quite warm,, I have about 1.5" clearance with mine, look.

Also if your looking into a new sub at a later date, I recommend BK Subs, they are a english manufacture and the subs are all hand built, but can only be ordered from the manufacture from their site http://www.bkelec.com/HiFi/Sub_Woofers.htm They range between £200 to £500. I bought the 2nd of the BK subs of their range, the XLS200, its amazing and build quality second to none.

Also if your using the amp purely for the pc, like I am with mine, just connect the sound up using digital or analog connections like you would for pc speakers

What about dust under a bed as most dust is under a bed...problems with a placement of a receiver now

Thanks for the info, I'll have a look at them.

Yeah, I was going to just use an optical really

I dont know if dust would affect it over time, cos the vents in the amp are quite large. I have a wet n dry hoover with a blower, and what I would do is blow it through the vents with the hoover every few months.

Yeah that will work too:cool:

I had an old Marantz amplifier and I opened it up to clean before selling it. It had vents on the top, back and sides so i thought so dust might have got inside.
Inside I found a mountain of dust and a big spiders web! Meaning flies or bugs of some sort must have got inside there. Either that or it was just nice and toasty for the spider so thought he would set up camp.

I hoovered it all out and sold it. It was working perfectly, even with all the dust and the web

Well OK I'm getting a lot of No's about putting under the bed, so I can put it on a shelf under my desk but it will be at a big slant forward, as the front feet stick out from the shelf, it is stable there and won't move. Just have to sacrifice a bit of legroom.

Plan?

ummm, If you put it on the shelf, just put some books, cd cases ect under the front of the shelf to level up the amp. But just make sure the shelf is nice and strong.

You could stand your monitor on your amp if its not going to block meny vents?

Yeah I'll just shift it up with some books then, I can't put it under my monitor as I have my whole desk and setup in an arch in the corner or my room so the monitor will just hit up on the arch.

or or.... hehe

To make the amp more stable on the shelf,, just screw a extra strip of wood on to your shelf where the amp is going, to make it a tad deeper. Thats if you dont mind modding your desk:p

It's a glass shelf held together with metal bars :p

Bummer..... Well Im out of ideas..:D

The books under the front of the shelf seems to be you best bet, or to make it a tad tidier, you could use 3 small blocks of wood and bluetak them to the front of the shelf so they dont slip?

umm yeah I'll probably jsut use books  Don't want to bother with cutting blocks of wood to size :)

ppl tel me over on avforums Just connect the speakers up as normal and forget the other 2 connections, but Im not sure if its best to use the "L" or "H" connections on the speakers. Maybe someone will have a better idea of this.

If you want the "best" then bi-wire the speakers

http://www.brilliancehifi.co.uk/how-to-bi-wire-speakers.htm

If not using two sets of leads you will need to connect the speaker posts together (the speakers should come with the bridges)

Oh I forgot, you don;t have a surround sound setup and your amp is capable of properly bi-wiring your speakers. From memory it's the rear surrounds used and then you select "bi-amp" instead of "normal" in speaker type. Without checking the manual not sure whether its the fronts or surrounds which connect to High/Low on the speakers.

So if you have the speaker cable, you may as well do it IMO.
