UFC 113: Machida vs. Shogun 2

Their best HW is surely the winner of Brock v Carwin at UFC 116 (think it's that one)?
Sure someone else can claim to be better but that will always be the case in any division. No one is unbeatable.
I'd agree with that. I think a younger Fedor would have disputed that - but Fedor as of now would get beaten by both of them. However without the fights actually taking place it's all speculation.

Also want to add that given time and fights I think Velasquez will be up there too. He's got the most insane pace that he keeps... he's just a bit physically smaller than the big two.

Although until the big Nog fight he hadn't really fought "anyone" yet...

someone know who he's fighting next? Mir?

I thought it'd be Dos Santos... but apparently he's fighting Big Country.

Makes sense, I suppose the UFC wants to build the hype behind the two before they clash. Then the winner of that is the next title contender?

What does strike me about some peoples opinions here is that they're the kind of MMA fans I really, really cannot stand. If you want to watch standing fighting, then watch K1, Boxing and other sports of that ilk, because quite frankly, MMA is beyond your simple minds. People criticise him for 'only' using Wrestling. Well Daley 'only' used stand-up, so how is that not as bad? The simple fact is that what Koscheck was effecting, within the rules and demands respect because his wrestling really is as good as anyone else's in that weight division.

I hate people who criticize fighters for ground based combat, it's all part of the game, why would someone take the risk of standing up, getting knocked out, therefore losing the fight and in this case, a starring role in the next The Ultimate Fighter and a title shot.

I dont criticise people for effective ground based combat, I criticise people for safety first Lay and Pray. There is a difference between somebody like Chael Sonnen who uses his awesome wrestling to take people down and then beats on them as much as humanly possible, to Josh Koscheck effectively taking Paul Daley down and laying on him for 15 minutes doing absolutely nothing.

He's on a 60 day suspension, you won't see him in another PPV until maybe November/December at the earliest would be my guess.

He will need that long and maybe more after that KO tbh or he'll stand a good chance of pugilistic dementia. He should not be taking any strikes to the head for a good 3-4 months even soft ones in training.

Everyone says this but the age difference between Carwin, Fedor and Brock is not an issue they are all at the same level here. Fedor has more experience, better all-round technique what he does not have though is the size (well haha maybe girth).

Interesting video with AA on sherdog btw where he talks more about getting his head right which imo has always been his problem.

It's a confusing one, he hasn't got an official fight set, logic would be Mir or Dos Santos, but as you said, Dos Santos is fighting Roy Nelson and I'm sure the winner of that will be the number one contender, which is definitely unfair on Cain Velasquez. The alternative is that you do the winner of Big Country/JDS against the winner of Velasquez vs Mir for the title shot, but in the meantime who would Carwin or Lesnar fight?

The UFC heavyweight division has some talent, but not enough of it. Cheick Kongo is fodder, Mir can't fight the big guys and Roy Nelson and Junior Dos Santos are fighting each other and Mirko Cro Cop is already booked in for UFC 115.

The only opponents I can see fighting Velasquez would be Kongo (who doesn't deserve it), Gonzaga (who got outclassed by Dos Santos), Antonio Noguiera (who he made to look a mug) and Matt Mitrione (who just fought.) I can only see a match with Frank Mir and he's lost 2 of his last 3. Of course, the other option is that Velasquez simply fights the winner of Carwin/Lesnar, but that will have left him out of a fight from February until September/October time.

Does anyone know what's happening with James McSweeney? He looked devastating in his last fight, but I've not heard anything since.

vs Travis Browne on the Prelims TUF 11 Finale iirc

Cain needs to be the next contender without a doubt he seems to be getting short-changed. UFC US bias? I am sure there are many on Sherdog who would say that and many who'd shout em down for it also.

Pat Barry and Todd Duffee also looked very good in what i've seen of them also. Definitely some "up and comers" in those 2. The heavyweight division has a feel that the LHW division had 2-3 years ago when Rampage shocked Chuck; we had Forrest, Machida, Rampage, Chuck, Rashad (spit) etc lots of big names who could quite win it (and did).

Ah, thanks, glad he's not being ignored, he was one of the real stars of TUF, I guess he had a niggling injury or something.

As for Cain, it's more than possible, I do wonder whether he would have had to wait like this if he didn't have 'Brown Pride' tattooed right across the top of his chest. I guess it's one of those things that we'll never know, but I know several who thought Cain was more deserving of the title shot contention fight than Carwin was, against Frank Mir. I hope he gets an immediate shot against the winner of Carwin/Lesnar and isn't forced to jump through hoops to get the shot.

I know he's already fought him, however, Kongo has really fallen away immensely in recent events and he is no longer deserving of fights against the top fighters, Velasquez and Mir both made him look like an amateur and he beat a past it, Headhunter Buentello.

Classic!

Nice find. Glad it shows that he did get hit, didn't think it was like him to fake a hit.

I am presuming we are talking about the knee contact in the sprawl his reaction is sometime after that and strangely at the same time Daley attempts to do the illegal knee. Which is a moot point really as I see this a bit like football if there is intent then there should be punishment irrespective of contact - likewise I'd say the same with simulation though.

i dont see it hitting from that clip....im watching his right knee and it doesnt seem to be moving forwards to strike him and his foot stays on the ground, just a jump back.

intent to hurt him ? or intent to use an illegal knee ?
he could well have thought kos was getting up(off his knees) and try to hit him on the way up.

Absolutely. If you also look at the Youtube video link, before Daley jumps his right foot back, it is on the canvas with weight on his toes with his heal up, that is not how someone knee's.
