The New Stargate Universe Thread

Latest episode was okay, not as good as the last few and quite boring in parts, and they had a song again, but okay overall.

Wonder what happened to chair guy at the end.

He ascended because....?

Because he was in a bizarre mental state when he sat in the chair, and I wouldn't be surprised if he learned how to ascend when he was fixing the FTL. Also, there was no need at all for the temperature to drop in order for him to use the chair as it did - related? Who knows.

I believe Ascension is the most likely of all of the options.

I don't think that ascension requires a low temperature.
I don't believe that a being can learn to ascend in a matter of minutes, simply by sitting on a chair.

For the above reasons I don't think it makes logical sense for him to have ascended. We shall find out soon though, as to where he actually went.

I hope we do find out. I don't think Ascension requires a low temperature either, but I just wondered if it was related somehow.

BTW - how long did it take Daniel to learn to ascend in SG1? It wasn't weeks was it?

Ah but the temperature dropping could have had something to do with using the chair as we've been shown very little about it. Perhaps it had something to do with not allowing his brain to fry while using it.

I don't know about ascension doesn't seem to fit for a few reasons
1. mallozzi has said that they're still discussing the idea of ascended beings in the show.
2. The ship is very old, with its origins long before the ancients in the show really started looking into ascension, as far as we know. Although that is speculation.
I think the two theories that are going around that a) he became part of the ship and his body was destroyed or b) he was moved somewhere else and is in stasis are the most plausible.

Daniel didn't really learn how to ascend in any natural sense, he was given a helping hand by Oma Desala after all so it was almost an instant transition.

I imagine we'll find out what happened to Franklin sometime in the future, after all it's not really something they can just pass aside after making such a fuss about him and the chair itself.

I think the chair sort of "uploaded" him into the computer to act as an interface between it and the crew.

Needed the cold temp to stop his inferior brain from frying :p

That or he dropped through the floor and is now physically wired into the computer in some macabre fashion and it decided just to hide him so not to disturb the others :p

I've been glued to the box whenever this is on, but it's starting to get annoying plot wise - the writers are absolutely frigging ANNOYING. They get to a point where it looks like a major plot is developing... one that could be drawn out over a few episodes and really build some tension, then *poof* five minutes later it is wrapped up and resolved (sometimes without any explanation as to what happened).

Such a shame - hopefully they'll lay off the coke and slow some of the plots down, rather than going through it like a badger on crack.

I've seen all the ones aired in the US too, so I'm sure folk who have also seen the next couple of episodes will know what I'm talking about!

I have to say that I have loved the 2nd half of the season. For me, the 2nd half of the season has been better than the final season of SGA.

I really wish though, that they would use the "stones" less, as I do not enjoy the Earth based episodes.

I originally thought ascended but given how difficult it's mean't to be I just don't buy it. I think it will end up being absorbed into the system or he has been teleported/put into some other area of the ship in stasis (due to the freezing part of it - which to me points away from ascension).

Apart from the 'hi folks did you miss us' bit with Eli/Scott/Chloe - I enjoyed this episode more than most (I thought the miss clever cloggs being disabled was interesting/different).

I'm still confused about Destiny's technology and how good it's meant to be - the robot was a bit pap, how come the aliens can just boom pop up find them etc - whats to stop them just chasing them easily forever? If they are so good what do they actually want off Destiny?

I like the stones when they're used for a purpose. As you say they're usage in episodes should be kept to a minimum unless theres a really good reason for them with their use in Sabotage being a good one and the events of Life being a bad example.

The thing that annoys me when they're used so often is the fact that the show is called Stargate Universe (strong emphasis on the universe) and not sg earth or sg family troubles back home. It just seems a bit of a contradiction lol.

They found them because the alien that took over James and destroyed the ship found their location. Also whos to say that they didn't already have ships in the void, or ahead of them in the next galaxy :).

They aren' t 'that advanced' Rush made a point that they are advanced but not as much as Destiny, after all they've been chasing it for a while and have never been able to get past the shields to board it.

So a ship thats clearly more advanced than theirs at least in terms of shields and all the other stuff thats on board. All the technology that we have and haven't seen, Data on everywhere its been, information on the Stargates. I'd certainly want to find out :). Who knows what they were able to learn about the ship from Rush as well.

Well "Pain" was a bit crap, as soon as you realise it's all in their head all the suspense completely drains away. It was also immediately obvious once Rush became infected that this would be the episode the blue aliens would "invade" the ship which was such a shame as I had thought that would be the subject of the finale two-parter "Incursion". Did think it was a bit funny Rush twacking the soldier across the head at the end though.

The Mrs and I have now after 18 months just finished all of SG1 and SGA. After the reviews on this thread of universe not sure I will even bother watching it. The last series of SGA has kinda killed our appetite.

Think I might give this a rest and try Battlestar Gallactica instead.
