At that price range, it will always be a bike shaped object ... which isn't a bad thing. Get one,, see if you take to the sport/activity and make up your mind if it's worth investing in a better bike?
BSOs should never be recommended to anyone apart from Chavs in the hope it falls apart and kills them.

Begginers should get advice and buy a 300plus bike new or decent 2nd hand one...a la 200.

So I bought that Thudbuster LT suspension seat post I was asking about a few pages back. It's awesome. I can now ride in complete comfort over rough, stony surfaces with my tyres at 50psi  It doesn't seem to affect pedalling efficiency too much either, and the backwards/downwards bob is barely noticeable.

Haven't had the chance to take it for a proper spin off road yet, but I'm very much looking forward to it next week! (And yes, I know I should've got a full susser :p)

It does look kind of wacky, but I'm prepared to make concessions :p

Don't drag your rear brake, it's a sure fire way to rip up the trails :) oh and wreck your rear tire :p

it was a downhill line anyway and thats how I was taught to get down this particular descent :) with more confidence and time i'll learn to feather the brakes but the exit is quite tricky

RobotXander, Torch, i need your opinions (or anyone else really)
Got 1 day of insurance left for my mums car so im going to try and get out tomorrow.
Im going to have my Stinky so need downhill/freeride style stuff (but small stuff, because im a pussy :p )
Choices are either:
Learnie - not far away (cheap for diesel), not a huge place but a good orange run with jumps and a nice flowy blue thats good fun. Guaranteed not to be a disappointment, but maybe there's something better?
Other choices are golspie or fochabers. Both are about the same distance from inverness, but both are further than learnie. Being a skint student, i dont want to spend more on diesel for something that isnt any better than learnie.
Whats your opinions guys?

not been to golspie yet but intend on doing it on monday providing the weather is ok, but i believe you would be dissappointed with fochabers imho. altho there is a nice freeride section at whiteash its not very long and the orange section at learnie would be more fun imo :)
although im led to believe that golspie has some wicked runs

It's not hard to tell really. I set them by turning the bars as far as I would/can and cut them at that. You do want them to have a nice steady curve to smooth out the feel a bit.

Here we go KnightStalker, pictures as promised.

As you can see - they're not over loength. They're just long enough to make a nice smooth arc. That's how I've set them up anyway ;)

Hmm it would appear mine might be on the long side then, ill see if i can get a top down pic (i know all this sounds really anal but im on a bike tweaking spree :) )

Here it is - Again excuse the over flash, light sensor is buggered.

They do look a bit long. FYI here is the length your gear cables should be at (if not slightly shorter):

I can't talk about brake cable just now as I can't be done with shortening the hose on the new brakes.

It is indeed gorgeous, ill get my snips out tomorrow and get to work on the cables, and gives me an excuse of shortening the brake hose too, oh the joys of bleeding (the process:) ) avid brakes

I like that A LOT...........make me cry how much did you bag it for?

Andy

Was that question to me? If so, I paid £400 for the bike, which I personally think is a steal given it's spec and the fact it was fitted with 0 mile Reba race forks

Lovely Kona m8, very nice. Loving the colour.

The colour is called Rootbeer I believe.

Can anyone tell me what year my bike is? I seem to think it will be a 07 or 08 model?
